We thoroughly enjoyed our free tour of the factory with Paul. He educated us on the harvesting and manufacturing of chocolate in a very fun and engaging way. It was very interesting learning about the production of chocolate from start to finish....right up to packaging and shipping. The museum section is small but cute little displays. The store is rather large for a chocolate store and obviously it has lots of delectable selections. There is a cafe with seating and there is a small seating area with couches where you can sit and watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Also a lot of laughs posing with the Lucy and Ethel Cutouts from the best “I Love Lucy” episode....Lucy and the chocolate conveyor belt.

We even found some of the famous ‘golden dormers’ at half price. A little blemished but still sprinkled with gold and yummy good.

We had been at the Chocolate Cafe in downtown South Bend and while we were there, we learned that the chocolate factory and museum was in a different place. Armed with directions, we had about a five minute drive and we were at the South Bend Chocolate Factory & Museum. There is plenty of parking at the factory. We arrived a few minutes before the tour started, so the timing did work out. When you walk in to the lobby of the factory, there are displays about chocolate and the all-important bean. Naturally, there is the proverbial got to take a picture with the "I Love Lucy" cut-out with Lucy and Ethel on the chocolate production line. There is a gift shop and chocolate & candy store. We came out to the lobby and our guide was Paul. He was entertaining and informative. He gave us a lot of information about chocolate and then took us in to the factory kitchen with the huge mixers and the conveyor belts. From there we went into the packaging and shipping area. Paul brought us in to the kitchen area and we dipped our individual spoons in to fresh mixing chocolate. After that, we toured the museum and saw chocolate memorabilia and packaging. Naturally, we did not get out of the store without purchasing some chocolates and some of the caramel corns. The kids were entertained and got a kick out of wearing the hair nets during the tour.

Stopped by here on a whim for a tour. The tours run on the hour- so we had a wait a bit. It was a pretty short tour- informative- but most of all- fun because our of tour guide Paul. He was able to take some pretty dry information and make it entertaining. Thank you Paul. Also- the chocolate is good.
