Owner description: A romantic house and gallery set in beautiful riverside gardens. Ancient trees, bubbling brooks and rolling lawns frame this lovely old house. Crafted from a medieval priory, it is full of surprises, with art that intrigues and delights. Come back throughout the year to see different exhibitions in the gallery. Carpets of spring bulbs, a stunning walled rose garden, rich autumn leaves and a colourful winter garden make Mottisfont a feast for the senses all year round. There's space to run, jump and play, and always something for families to do.

I love visiting Mottisfont it is quite close to home and free with National Trust membership so makes for a great day out. The car park is always busy as is the cafe which serves some lovely hot food dishes dependent on the season. The walks around the estate agent the biggest but the gardens are really nice when they are in bloom especially all the roses in the gardens.

We went to see the Heath Robinson exhibition. Midweek the car park was busy but had space. Very friendly buggy driver took us from the entrance to the Abbey. First thing had a very nice mixed bean and bread lunch. The house is very interesting especially the tromp-loeil in the downstairs room, nothing is what it seems.
The exhibition was worth the visit but has ended now.
There are very nice walks along the river with lots of fish to see. In summer there is a wonderful rose garden.

Surprising for a National Trust property, Mottisfont is open every day (except Christmas). A jewel in an otherwise barren countryside for NT properties. Good disabled access and a free buggy taxi from the entrance to the house. We visited to see the Heath Robinson exhibition (probably now closed) but there is an interesting programme of exhibitions throughout the year. However, there is no disabled access to the exhibition galleries. The café in the old stables is just that, a cafe with sandwiches and buns. The main restaurant is in the basement of the house with the usual NT fare including children's lunch boxes. TIP: Toilets just inside entrance.

Not as grandiose as others, the house seems to feature heavily on a 1950's theme (as per the last resident). Disappointed with little effort on historical information, the grounds are smaller than other country estates, but NT did feature not one, but two cafe's, a plant centre and bookshop. Seems the £14 per adult entrance fee isn't enough. Had I not been a NT member, and considering the poor quality of the gardens, I would have demanded a refund, or part thereof.
Might return in high summer, just to see the gardens in bloom. Plus note, kids can play in the gardens and dogs welcome (on a lead)

Just drove 30 miles to visit Montisfont and queued to get to the entrance only to be told they have had to close due to the car park being full. Disappointing that nothing was put on the website.

Hello, we’re very sorry for this disappointing experience.

As Sunday was the only dry day of the Easter weekend, we were very busy with visitors coming to take part in our Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt. Unfortunately, due to the adverse weather conditions of the weekend (as well as the last few months), we were not able to access our overflow parking areas. We therefore had to close the car park for short periods when full, but this was a decision which had to be made on the day.

We did have warnings in place with both the Easter information on our website, and on our social media channels, to try and let potential visitors know that the bank holiday is one of our busiest weekends and that overflow car parking was not available.

We can only apologise that your trip was not successful, and that the correct information did not get through to you.

Kind regards,
The Mottisfont team
