Took my daughter and little grand daughter for lunch. I have had lunch here a few times and know that it is a pretty busy cafe on the weekend but a Tuesday was perfect for anyone with a small child. Staff were very accommodating and we all enjoyed our lunch. Food combinations are well presented and tasty.

Very disappointing experience. Came here last weekend with 2 mates for lunch. We were seated after a mere 15 min wait. We ordered Pretty In Pink, Green Eyed Monster & Tribute to the Greatest Reuben, along with 3 coffees. We waited for 20 mins for our coffees, the place was fairly full but no more than 1-2 names on the board at any given time. The place was under staffed with 2 wait staff for the entire cafe. As we looked across the cafe, most of the patrons only had drinks on their tables, waiting for food to be served. It was then we realised we were in for the long wait. At 2:30pm, a good 45 minutes after our coffees were serves - a grand total of 1 hour 5 min since our arrival - we got our food. No apologies whatsoever for the epic hold up. Now, I don't typically complain about having to wait for my food but this, I felt was a little too much. We were not expecting this from a popular cafe, and we have seen much busier cafes with better and faster service. The food was good but definitely not worth the wait.

Hi Fennn_k
Thank you for your review. I can honestly say that we would not expect any of our customers to have to wait that long for food and only offer my sincerest apologies. We were short staffed on that day (we usually have four waitstaff at the weekend, or three at the very least) but that does not excuse the wait you suffered for your food, or the fact that no one came to update you or apologise for the delays. Please believe that the owners and management of the cafe will be discussing this at length and we hope to ensure this never happens again. My deepest, deepest apologies that your expeoeronce is not everything that you had hoped it would be.

we go here all the time, not just because it is dog friendly, but because the food, coffee & service are all excellent. they look after us & our fur baby. even when they are slammed busy, they always take the time to make sure your wait for a table is as pleasant as it can be & sneak treats to our doggie.
absolutely love working our way through the menu during baconfest :)

Thank Hchez

Great cafe. Great food and coffee. Interesting procession of alternatives en route to Newtown train station.

PROS:

Generally has a pleasant vibe; located in the historic old building which we gather was perhaps the railway ticket office or similar; on a pleasant sunny day the outdoor space is inviting; staff were attentive; good place to watch passing parade from station although...

some customers here are inconsiderate of others eg. A barking dog that wouldn't shut up; a screaming child repeatedly throwing the cafe cups (hard plastic) around...maybe we aren't as laid back enough for the alternate Newtown lifestyle Anyway, those irritations not the cafe owner's fault of course.

CONS:

Many items on menu are pricey ($20+) for a casual cafe - only reasonably priced thing we could see for lunch was "eggs on toast" ($11); my husband had a juice ($8) which was v nicely presented but medium sized glass was half full of ice so again, it seemed an unreasonable price for what was on offer.
