Fantastic location with so many points of interest within reach (5 mins into Flash, the highest village in the country). It's very rural location yet just off a main road and only 10 mins away from Waitrose, Marks' and Aldi. Beautiful views are to be had literally from the doorstep passing quaint little cottages on the way and the walks are great for all levels of walkers, Best to download maps as some of the paths are off-road and not obvious!
Quarnford lodge itself comfortably accommodated our group of 24 (adults and kids) and communication with Peter was quick and our rooms were done to our specification (i.e with cots etc). The lodge is very spacious and the kids enjoyed having their own separate lounge (equipped with computer games, karaoke machine, pool and tennis table). This along with lots of board games etc meant there was always entertainment if you didn't want to venture outdoors.
For the foodies there's lots of places close by if your taking a break from the kitchen! There's Flash cafe bar just a 5 min walk (highly recommend their hearty breakfast with locally sourced produce and yummy oatcakes ). Next to this is the Knights Table pub but we went by the recommendation of the caretaker (Mark) and went to the Three Horseshoe Pub which was a 10 min car ride away. Again highly recommend this place, it was so good we ventured here a couple of times and they easily accommodated our large group despite not pre-booking.
For those happy to venture a little further it's worth heading to Chatsworth House and the Heights of Abraham, both good days out around 40mins by car for both. We saved a trip into Buxton for our check out day as its only 10 away. Some lovely independent shops and tearooms are dotted along the high street. There's a lovely park and would recommend you pop into the Pavilion Gardens Cafe for a bite to eat too.
Quarnford is great for a break away and I think it was great to see everyone off their usual gadgets (Wifi is limited and no/weak signal). Fantastic for those just wanting some country air and some much needed respite from the demands of modern day stresses (work, life, kids)!! We all loved it and would love to revisit again in the future.
Really excellent find if you are looking for a house for a large group. 10 good sized bedrooms and plenty of areas to lounge around and sit and eat together. Good outdoor space for BBQing and eating (if warm enough!). Great location near to Buxton. It is on a relatively main road but were not disturbed by traffic and the views across the valley were superb.
Booking and communication with the owner was easy and any questions answered very quickly.
We have been renting properties as a large group (>20 people) for the last 15 years and this was certainly one of the best we've had.
Our group of 18 stayed here for a week's walking in the Peak District, and were really happy with the standard of accommodation at Quarnford Lodge. The kitchen was particularly well equipped with loads of crockery, cutlery and cooking equipment. There are two lounges, so there was plenty of room for us all to relax, and the dining area was particularly spacious. All bedrooms had en suite which was great with a group of this size, and all were lovely and clean. Would definitely recommend for a group holiday and would like to visit again.
With 20 adults, 4 children and a dog we needed something special to cater for a family gathered from the corners of the globe to celebrate Dad;s 80th Birthday and at Quarnford Lodge we found it. 10 en-suite bedrooms, great dining room and a lounge to take all, well appointed kitchen, some fab far reaching views across the rolling peak district and a 5 min walk to a great pub/restaurant.
No complaints, nothing to deter from a wonderful family weekend party.
Myself and my uni friends and their families have been getting together this same weekend for the last 11 years. As our group has grown so have the houses we stay in and Quarnford was just right for us. Lovely family rooms, brilliant having an en-suit in all rooms bar one (which is literally just opposite). Lovely kitchen and good facilities. Loads of space for meal times so we could all eat together. 2 lounge / sofa areas so one for kids and all their toys.
Beautiful setting and great location. The weekend of snow made it even more memorable. Thank you to Peter for making the booking process very straightforward.
We hope to stay again.
