Location for surfing is sublime and picturesque by Indo standards. Being able to keep an eye on 'the peak' ensures no missed opportunities. Didn't surf anywhere else during my stay but others went hunting for a right via scooter and weren't disappointed.

The resort itself feels quite remote as that area of Simeulue is sparsely populated.

Fun and challenging wave and booties aren't necessary, though there was the odd scrape during our stay. Easy access. Best stint of waves I've had on surf trip anywhere.

Bungalow amenities are 'surf camp' basic but all you need in the tropics - cold water shower. Serviced daily. Great beds and mozzie nets should you feel the need.

Utilised the games room quite a few times and is always good to have with a group of traveling mates along with the ubiquitous can.

Food was average for our stay but changes have been made. That said, you certainly won't go hungry.

All-in-all, good and friendly local staff.

The acid test is when people ask "would you go back?" Absolutely, without hesitation given half a chance…

I spent 2 great weeks @Aura on my own and met very nice people there. The food was excellent, varied (local food, BBQs, sushis...) and consistent. The staff was really careful, the surfguides really helpful to be at the good place at the right moment. The surf spots are really good, for every level of surfers and a very few people in the water for Indo. The place is perfect, perfect A-peak in front of your bungalow, surrounding by the jungle, with buffalos walking in the camp yard, the dog and cat of the place are so funny and nice. What do you expect more ? That's the place !!

In late September myself and a group of mates enjoyed a memorable 10 day stay at Aura Surf Resort. Having done a number of Indo boat/camp trips in recent years Aura would rate as my personal favourite. But what made the trip so epic was the Aura crew and the fact you have a quality wave directly out the front. When not surfing the Peak, surf guides Guy and Rasool ensured we got to surf other great waves around the island. The boys are on it and know where to go and when.
I came home with an awesome photographic record of the trip for a very reasonable price thanks to Aura photographer Chris.
The grounds are attractive and well maintained, the accommodation and facilities clean and comfortable, the food good and plentiful, the team there are legends and the waves pumped.
Go there!

I've recently returned from an epic stay at Aura with two of my oldest surfing buddies and we had an absolute blast. The other guests were all legends and after a couple of days we were a tight crew and scored some of the waves of our lives. Big barrels at epic Tea Bags ("Strap on your balls and pull in") and some incredible uncrowded sessions at the Peak, surfed at least 3 times a day (sometimes 4) for 8 days straight. It was pumping. Food was great, beds comfy and the crew who run Aura are awesome. The two surf guides Guy and Josh are epic blokes and called us all into waves we'll never forget. Nate, Jake, Brian, Big Boss and the owner Andy are all quality humans and looked after our every need. Cold beers and lots of other fun to be had, even the notorious Swell Monkey made a cameo!! Cant wait to go back.

There are much cheaper places to stay on Simeulue but I would doubt they would offer any of the relative comfort and convenience of Aura. Well managed with great staff and fantastic waves, our grouped surfed good to excellent waves for all but one of the ten days we stayed. There are no charter boats up here which is a definite bonus. The Peak, even though it was being called best this year, was a little disappointing. It is primarily a left and is a swell magnet. There are many other waves to surf and a heap of rights. Get up here before the crowds arrive! A couple of minor points to mention. The Aura speedboat was dry docked and could be for awhile, we used local canoe outriggers which were fine but a little slow. Beer is pricey by Indonesian standards. Wifi is over rated. A more varied menu with more fish and local dishes would be good. Minor stuff for what was a great stay. Happy Days Sully
