My wife and I had been meaning to try Shakou for quite some time as we had heard so many great things about it. Yesterday was our anniversary so we decided to give it a try and so glad we did!
We did not have a reservation and from the moment we walked in we could tell they were having a busy Sunday evening. However we were promptly greeted and the manager Declan stopped by the hostess and said it would be no issue they can get us a table in 20-30 mins. He said we could wait at the bar in the meantime which was great as it allowed us to try a bottle of wine we have been meaning to try while we waited. While we waited, Declan kept us informed about every 10 mins and even offered us a taste test of another wine we almost bought.
We were seated in about 30 minutes time and greeted by a friendly waitress. We asked about a few items on the menu and she even offered us a few items that are no longer on the menu but could still be offered. I ordered nigiri and a Maki roll and my wife who is not a big eater of sushi ordered up a fillet steak. The sushi was served very elegantly and was very fresh. My wife’s steak I would argue was one of the best steaks we have had and was cooked perfectly over a bed of grilled vegetables with a side of fried mashed potatoes.
To end the evening Declan treated us to a sample of their white chocolate covered mango sorbet.....wow, it was simply awesome!
The best part of all of this is we never even mentioned to anyone it was our anniversary until we had already paid and were saying goodbye. I am of the opinion it’s just the first class experience they are committed to providing. Thank you to Shakou and to Declan for making our anniversary evening so memorable!!!
