If you live in Chicago you need to learn to do something in all this lovely cold weather we get. There is obviously ice skating at many places throughout the city but my favorite is cross country skiing.
There are only a few spots in Chicago that rent equipment and groom trails for cross country skiers. This place is one of them. They have a beautiful lodge with an enormous fireplace - entrance is free. They have lockers for your shoes, they rent equipment for a fee and offer cross country (nordic) ski lessons.
Although they are open year round, check in advance for ski conditions. You usually need at least 6-8 inches on the ground to ski (more is better). Temps need to be BELOW freezing or snow gets slushy.
Get there early - they have a small parking lot and once it is full they close the area. You can check their Facebook page or call to get snow conditions. If you want to take lessons, call the Monday BEFORE you want to go ski and you should be able to get in the following weekend. Trails are well maintained and 75% are beginner trails.f
Get out and enjoy the snow!
