Every year we lead a culinary tour through Sicily. However, this year the 2 of us decided to arrive in Sicily 2 days sooner to relax and prepare for our group. My companion checked many places on line until we found this one. We enjoyed our back and forth conversation which was full of warmth and humor. I am a chef and a musician and my companion always makes sure that whenever we travel there will be a place with very good food and music. We got more than we bargained for. We arrived at this magnificent villa built in the 1800’s and inhabited by the same family up until the present and were awestruck!. We were greeted by beautiful gardens redolent with the smell of citrus and bella donna and were also greeted with hugs and kisses, Sicilian style by the owners Guiseppe and Elvira. Their past interesting lives brought their present lives to where they are and doing what they love most….Making friends and cooking. They are both wonderful chefs. When I told them the style of Sicilian food I cooked, not only were they the first Sicilians that understood what it was but, they also cooked in the same style as myself. The food was not only as authentic as any food I have ever eaten in Sicily, but it was probably the best. Cooked and served with the freshest ingredients, along with pride and love. Make sure you request the lemon gelato with blood orange sauce. One of Elvira’s many specialties. The breakfast was set out in the indoor dining room with the finest of china and crystal. Elegant, yet unpretentious. Local honey, cheeses, homemade marmalades of all flavors, fresh squeezed juice, fresh breads, etc.
Every meal was a hit! We would eat dinner on the second floor terrazzo with a view of Mt. Etna with our hosts. Getting to know these people was sheer joy. I could go on and on, but let me get to the best part. As I said earlier I’m a musician and Giuseppe said he would arrange a small music jam for me. I was expecting a bunch of guys in the living room with acoustic guitars. What I got were 6-8 professional musicians, on the patio all plugged in with a guy on a soundboard with a built in audience and incredible food. What a party. I played with Italy’s most famous drummer who happened to be staying there at the time. When I looked him up on you tube I found out he really was who he said he was. What a party! What an experience! Giuseppe and Elvira deliver what they promise. Staying here was an experience I will remember fondly the rest of my life. Do you want a true Sicilian Experience? Do you want to experience the food, culture, and warmth that Sicily is famous for? If so, this is the place for you. Thank you Giuseppe and Elvira! This was not just a vacation, it was an experience
