My husband and I spent 4 nights at the St. Regis Maldives and we cannot wait to return. This was probably the greatest travel experience we have had in our lives.

First, the service at the St. Regis Maldives is just exceptional. From the moment you land in Male and are whisked away by the airport butlers to the Great Lounge to the wonderful greeting as you land by seaplane with all of the staff waving as you touch down in the water, it is just remarkable. Our butler, Midori, was wonderful. She was so helpful, knowledgable, kind, on top of things, she suggested great activities, brought us delicious snacks and drinks for tea time, and she made our trip so special. When we landed in Male before we got on the seaplane we even got a little iPad video from her - very cute touch!

The property is gorgeous and the rooms are fantastic. You know when you look at hotel photos in advance of a trip and it just doesn't ever live up to expectations? Well, this is the opposite! I don't even think photos do this resort justice. The natural beauty of the property along with the fabulous modern architecture that still matches the atmosphere is beyond anything I have seen. Our overwater villa was perfect - a great size with lots of room inside and on the deck. Also, definitely check out the library and The Whale Bar. Beautiful.

The food was all delicious. We really enjoyed Alba breakfasts (great SPG platinum perk!), Orientale for Indian food, and the in-room dining was excellent. We had a dinner on the beach one night that was wonderfully delicious and beautiful.

There are so many things to do at this hotel. You can sit on the beach, at the pool, at your villa and just hang. We also went paddleboarding, snorkeling, and kayaking with the glass kayak (very cool!). The spa is wonderful. Massages were excellent and the blue hole pool was great. Highly recommend! The tennis court was great and was hidden by trees so it thankfully wasn't too hot to play.

Our two minor suggestions to management would include: 1 - if possible, it is much better to not need to pick up / drop off other passengers on the seaplane; on the way there we had to drop people off at another resort and other people got on which added time on the seaplane and 2 - there should be snacks / food at the Great Lounge rather than suggesting that guests visit the hotel near the airport for dinner; the food / atmosphere of that other hotel was nowhere near St. Regis standards and was pretty disappointing.

All in all - an incredible trip and and an incredible place. Can't wait to return!

Dear melissa b,

Many thanks for sharing your experience on Tripadvsor. We are delighted that you had an incredible stay with us and enjoyed everything we had on offer. We certainly noted your suggestions about the Great Room and seaplane transfers and grateful for your valuable feedback. Rest assured that direct flight is always requested however seaplane company is a third party that arranges all schedules for most Maldives resorts to accommodate all guests traveling that day, unless a flight is chartered we are not able to guarantee time and stops.

Midori and the rest of the team are so looking forward to your next visit. Best wishes from all of us.

Sincerely,
Management Team

Ive been to many great resort around the world but seriously maldives's st regis is another level,i had to write a review. We stayed at overwater villa and everything was amazing. From champagne and chocolate on your arrival to all the restaurant (my personal favourite is breakfast time at alba) everything are perfect. Sadly wasnt able to join decanter dinner, but we surely will next time. Everyone are welcoming and nice but i come to know some of the great great person that makes my stay so enjoyable!

Shirfan aka mr. Chill ,our funny butler. He went to great length to make our stay more enjoyable, from finding us a snorkeling instructor to searching for my partner's necklace that accidentally got carried away when the cleaning guys fold and change the linen ( he found it in less than 5 mins) lol amazing is it. And somehow he managed to get us a coconut water and put it in the chiller. What a nice touch.

Then there is Mizu, lovely lady. first time i met her at whale bar she immediately said to me , ' Do you want to see something amazing? ' then she showed me a group of jumping fish. That kind of positive attitude make a whole lot different. And the kids love her! We met her again at alba the next day playing with other guest's kids.

We went snorkling for the first time with Haisham and Nizar, great great instructor. At first i dont even know how to breath from the mask then he and Nizar patiently teach me and my partner how to snorkle properly. He even went with his go pro and gave us the video without me asking! The corals are beautiful,we can just jump in from our villa and we saw shark, turtle and many many fishes. This is truly one of my best experience at the resort thanks to Haizham and Nizar.

Then there is Reji,he runs Orientale and help us to recommend our dinner menu, then we met him again at the breakfast, very chatty and friendly guy we spend our time while waiting for the seaplane with him.
We met Rajesh several times, first at cargo then again at breakfat, great guy always smiling and so friendly.

Lastly Ghuzlan at the great room is such a pleasure to meet after a long flight, and the driver and butler (forget to ask their name) that fetch us from the airport are awesome. Everything are well taken care of,Ghuzlan make us sandwich while we are waiting for the seaplane flight, i will see you next time Ghuzlan.

I could go on and on and on lol but to cut it short,Rooms are obviously amazing, its st regis no doubt about it lol. Foods are generally good. There are many good resorts with good restaurants out there. But only st regis have this kind of peoples. Thats what set st. Regis apart from others. Great experience, sadly we only managed to stay for a short period, but willsurely comeback next time! Until then, please send my regards to all the ppls i mentioned above, because of them my short stay at the st. Regis are so enjoyable,i wont be the same without them. ❤️❤️

I can't say enough great things about this amazing resort. The setting was incredible, and the service was first-rate. Special recognition needs to go to our butler Riyaz, who did a great job helping to make this one of the best vacations we have ever had. We stayed six nights in an overwater villa and the room and amenities were fantastic. Highlights of our trip included the Spa treatments and evening fishing where we were able to catch our lunch for the next day. I highly recommend the tasting menu with wine pairings at the Decanter restaurant. It's like experiencing a Michelin star restaurant in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Overall, the restaurants were all wonderful. We are looking forward to our next visit.

om the moment you land in Male, you are taken under the wings of an extraordinary Butler team. The team helped us get our bags checked into our seaplane flight and then we were driving to the Great Room to wait for our plane. We were able to relax, complete the check-in forms/payment (preauth of credit card of $500 per night) and have a bite to eat. O

We arrived at the resort to a line of team members who all greated us by name. We immediately met our Butler, Riyaz, who greated us with a welcome drink. After a quick tour of the island, we headed to our room where our bags were already waiting. We stayed in an over water bungalow and the layout and décor was relaxing and luxurious. The room was a smart room with everything from lights to curtains to temperature controlled by an iPad. Our room had life preservers, beach bags and bikes. We requested snorkeling gear, which is complementary, and were able to snorkel off our deck. The room was spacious and the deck area was perfection - cozy lounge chairs, hammocks and a warm pool. We had a sunrise facing view and were blessed with a gorgeous sunrise each morning.

The food at this resort is world class and the restaurant and wine team is outstanding. They are most definitely catering towards a foodie crowd. The breakfast spread at Alba was perfection - with a variety of choices and endless mimosas. For dinner, we loved the spices and atmosphere at Cargo, and enjoyed our meal at Oriental. We also loved having a cocktail at the Whale Bar for sunset. We did need reservations at Cargo and Oriental - and were asked about reservation preferences prior to arriving. Reji, Pop, Deepak and Anas all provided us with caring and detailed service each morning at breakfast and dinner. To our disappoint, the resort did not do a nightly Sunset Saber, which is one of our favorite traditions at St. Regis properties.

We opted to do the Decantur Wine dinner and it was one of our favorite meals - and on par with a Michelin star restaurant. We were able to engage in great discussion with Chef Ben and Nilseh, the wine director. Mayank, the sommelier, provided meaningful descriptions of each of the wines we tried. The cost was ~$1K USD for two of us, but well worth it.

Back to our butler, Riyaz….he provided an exception experience for us. He made numerous suggestions on activities that made our trip even better, including the Ayurveda consult, massages and the night fishing. What made Riyaz so special was he clearly understood our style and adjusted to it - and he also anticipated our needs quite well. He noticed that my husband was under the weather and arranged for a visit with the island doctor, which was so very helpful. Our interactions with him were one of the highlights of our trip - we enjoyed our conversations with him tremendously.

We tried the spa twice. The Blue Hole experience is fun - my only regret is that I didn't do it earlier in the week, as I think it would have helped me with my sore body after travel. We both had massages and would recommend as well.

The gift shop is small and has an extremely limited sundries supply. Be sure to pack anything you need ( SPF lip balm, cough drops, medicines, contact solution, etc) because you won't find it on the island.

The team working at this resort is world class. They know how to provide luxury service and always have a smile on their faces. They will make you feel so special and welcomed. Make sure you bring cash to tip, as there is no place to get cash on the island.

I literally cried when I got on the sea plane to leave. I cannot wait to go back.

Room Tip: You will receive an pre-arrival email. Make restaurant reservations before you arrive.

We stayed for 5 wonderful nights with our 2 year old in an overwater villa on our third trip to the Maldives, previously staying at the Conrad and the Park Hyatt. I think the Maldives is the most beautiful place to visit. From the US, it is quite a journey requiring multiple flights, transfers, and layovers along the way. I was highly anticipating this trip because the resort had recently opened and decided not to read any of the reviews prior to arrival.

Upon exiting the airport security doors, we were immediately greeted by the staff who took our luggage and whisked us to the St. Regis minivan (with wifi) while they handled our seaplane transfer. We were driven to the arrivals lounge and waited about one hour for our flight. The arrivals lounge is brightly decorated with multiple televisions, seating areas, and bathrooms with a shower. You can even sit outside on the veranda to watch the seaplanes arrive and depart. We were offered drinks while we waited and asked what drink we would like when we arrived at the resort.

When our flight was ready, we were taken next door to the seaplane's departure lobby and we boarded the plane. We made a stop at a different resort which was 7 minutes away from the St. Regis - total flying time was less than 1 hour. The seats from the right side of the plane had views of the resort while landing and the ones in the back were cooler. We could see the hotel staff lined up waving to greet us as we landed on the brilliant turquoise water. We were given our welcome drink (champagne, watermelon juice), introduced to our butler, given a quick tour of the resort on the buggy, and taken to our villa.

The over watervilla was quite spacious, beautifully decorated, and super hi-tech. There was one iPad for the room controls and one for personal use. Our butler had downloaded the apps for the newspapers we had requested before our arrival. We requested a villa with a northern view to prevent the sun’s rays from blazing into the villa during the day and so there would some shade coverage on our terrace while we enjoyed the magnificent views and the plunge pool.
Our butler had a bottle of Louis Roederer champagne chilling in an ice bucket as a welcome gift. There was also a large basket of fruit, a small refrigerator, hot water kettle, chocolates and cookies, and an Illy espresso machine with coffee pods that were refilled twice a day. There were also bicycles for us to use to ride around the resort including a small bicycle for our daughter.

Every day, we woke up at 5AM to watch the sunrise and take walks on the beach before breakfast. We wanted to make the most of our day and sunlight since the sunset was around 6:15 in the evening.

The restaurants and food were amazing. Every morning, I looked forward to the breakfast at Alba. There was a vast assortment of pastries and breads that were baked early in the morning. The selection of hot foods changed daily and included Indian and Chinese dishes. In addition, you could order a la carte from a menu - Fois Gras, sushi, lobster and crab omelette with caviar, dessert, etc. The French toast was fantastic. They also came by with a cart serving mimosas, bloody marys, and bellinis. We tried all the restaurants for dinner minus the wine pairing dinner at Decanter. I was impressed with the quality of the food and how they managed to bring such fresh food to a remote island. Our favorite restaurant was Cargo - an outdoors middle eastern food truck with smoke/water vapor coming from the trees creating a mysterious, jungle like ambience.

Besides the food, the service was impeccable. Our butler, Saddam, helped us with dinner reservations every day and arranged for activities such as kayaking and a boat trip to the neighboring islands. One day, he came by to greet us at the beach and asked if we needed anything. We asked if there were any beach toys and within minutes, he brought over a brand new set of plastic toys. At every meal, the staff came by to chat with us and play with our daughter. After speaking to them, we learned that the St. Regis recruited them from other luxury resorts including the Four Seasons, Cheval Blanc, Gili Lankanfushi, etc.

We were extremely impressed with the kids club. Since our daughter is only two, we accompanied her to all of the activities and we were able to witness how wonderful (and patient) the staff is with all the children. The kids club is in a small building with plenty of running space, a kitchen for cooking, and lots of toys. Our daughter enjoyed making a small picture frame with seashells and the different cooking activities - baking cookies, decorating cupcakes, Greek salad, smoothies at Orientale. On our last day, she was presented with a small carry on case with a stuff panda as a gift from the staff.

When we were departing on the seaplane, once again the staff lined up to wave us goodbye. Our suitcases were also given St. Regis luggage tags. Even at the airport, until we entered the security gates, someone was there to help us along the way.

After reading other reviews, there were some tiny discrepancies with other guests. We were not picked up in the Bentley from the airport but we did see it parked nearby the arrivals lounge. There was no food at the arrivals lounge besides beverages and our daughter was not given any toys or a St. Regis passport at the lounge. The only concerns I had was there were small loose tiles in the pool and the hot water had a distinct smell. I would have liked to tour the John Jacob Astor Estate but unfortunately it was occupied during our stay. We also did not have any spa treatment.

The resort is a bit on the pricey side - the overwater villas starting at $2200 a night. The food and activities were also on the pricey side. We budgeted around $500 a day for food (with no alcohol) which was probably on the conservative end. Plus there is the cost for the seaplane transfer which is around $650 per person.

Overall, we had a memorable, unforgettable vacation. The St. Regis aimed for and achieved perfection!
