Got to the cave at around 5pm, which was a tad too early. 5.30pm would have been perfect. As an update on what it might say in your travel guide, there is now an entrance fee of 1,000 Kyat (which is still next-to-nothing). The view from the top of the cave is pretty, particularly at dusk. But, of course, the real draw is the bats. They begin to appear in their hundreds at around 6pm - it's hard to describe, except to say that it's stunning! Would definitely recommend seeing this before tourism to Hpa An really takes off.

Loved the inside and exterior of these caves. It looks stunning from a distance and there are many pathways, temples and interior of the cave to explore.

From the ground this place is quite pretty. Many steps to the top and a lot of monks with microphones on the way. We were unsure if we needed to pay (boards in Burmese looked like admission fees) but got along without it.

The hot springs were very disappointing. Just two big areas with the women swimming behind a low wall and the men in an open pond with rubbish at the edges. At the time the water was green with lots of floating algae and I did not even consider entering it.

Quite challenging as you will have to take 100 steps to reach the tops. The cave is nice; interesting well kept. Many buddha statues....
