“Perfect location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2012

Great staying at the Residence Inn on the week before Easter. The room was nice and comfortable, even if we didn't use the kitchen at all. Too many tempting good restaurants nearby! And the complimentary breakfast was convenient as well. The only concern was that, maybe because we were here during the spring break, the buffet area was very crowded and sometimes it was hard to find a table. We also found long lines at the elevators during breakfast time, so that we ended up using the stairs from the 10th floor.

The location is just perfect and that was what we liked the best of this hotel, together with the self-parking garage (40$/day) connected to the hotel. We are already planning to go back to Chicago and the Residence Inn.

Nasty-

Thank you for your recent stay! I am happy to hear you and your family enjoyed the hotel, and restaurants in the area! During Spring Break, breakfast can get really crowded. Next time I would recommend trying to come done just a little bit earlier, it can make quite the difference. I do hope we are able to serve you again in the future!

Best,
Amanda

We just returned from a 5-day stay. The hotel was perfect for my family (2 adults and 2 kids) for our spring break visit to Chicago. The hotel is within walking distance to the Magnificent Mile and popular restaurants (Geno's East, Ed Debevics, Weber Grill, Carsons). The hotel gets business travelers and tourists, so at the breakfast buffet you will see people in suits sitting next to a table with kids in pajamas. The breakfast is good (waffles, cereals, eggs, fruit, yogurt, bagels, etc.). The hotel small is pool, but the kids still had lots of fun. Parking is in an adjacent garage that connects to the hotel ($40/day for hotel guests). I would definitely stay here again. Amanda Masters, the guest services manager, was very helpful in helping with my reservation.

We visited the Residence Inn the weekend of 4/6 to spend time together for our 5 year wedding anniversary. We were on a tight budget but desperately needed this time. We arrived to our room late due to a sudden migraine, so I phoned ahead and the staff was friendly, even wished us a safe drive. Upon arrival we used valet (and it stayed there until we left, the hotel is conveniently located), the bellmen loaded us up and up we went. Check in was a breeze. On my reservation request I just stated anniversary. They gave us a corner King! I loved all the windows. The room was well appointed and modern furnishings. Very clean. The kitchen has pretty much everything you need. Although if you are planning on cooking bring extra dish soap (they don't give you much, although you could phone the front desk). The bathroom was small but still fully functional. I was even able to soak in the tub, although at 5' 4" I rarely have issues soaking! The water pressure in the hand washing sink was bad, but the other faucets were great. The shower has a multi-head option which was great for my hubbies achy back. My only gripe was the parking. But being this is the stanadard for the cities downtown hotels I'm not going to take off any stars for that! The breakfast was okay, good for families, not good for 2 hung over 30's, LOL!

All in all this was a great property and I would love to stay here again!

Taking the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) train from O'Hare to Lake, it's a short walk to the Residence Inn River North. The Residence Inn is actually in the same building as Springhill Suites, and I have stayed on both sides. The Residence Inn rooms are bigger and the breakfast is upscale (including hot entrees!) It's a reasonable walk and pleasant to cross the river bridge to get downtown. The shopping areas on Michigan Avenue are even closer. The Residence Inn has an evening reception with snack food, beer and wine, and some guests make that their dinner. On my last visit, I noted that the breakfast staff were incredibly warm and welcoming. I can see the appeal of that for travelers, and particularly those on business because we are treated like long-lost relatives. The staff were universally warm and welcoming. I used the business center computers several times and it was quite convenient (adjacent to the evening reception and breakfast area).

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view, but it's mostly of other buildings.

All in all it's not a bad place - the room was nice, the staff friendly, the option of self-parking a welcome alternative to the usual valet, and the price reasonable for the area. That said, there were just enough little things to drive you crazy. The room was not ready for check-in at 4:00 PM, a fact made all the more annoying by the next 5-10 groups that we watched check in without problems while we waited. The long blonde hair in the bathroom sink couldn't have possibly belonged to either of us. The night club next door plays LOUD music late into the night - loud enough to be easily heard even on the tenth floor of the hotel. The shower had a conspicuous lack of hot water in the morning. Not horrible things (although the cold shower wasn't great), but just enough to make you think twice about going back.
