Owner description: The largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Housed in the only remaining building from the 1893 World’s Fair, MSI is a Chicago must-see. You’ll experience 14 acres of hands-on exhibits and have the chance to stand before a 40-foot tornado; climb aboard a World War II German submarine; take a run in a human-sized hamster wheel; descend into an Illinois coal mine; tour a fully functioning eco-friendly home; board a 727 hanging from the ceiling; transmit your pulse to a 13-foot, 3-D beating heart; and much more! MSI is not a place where you walk around quietly and observe. No way! You get involved in the fun—and learn—by doing. Just a few miles from downtown with convenient underground parking.
Useful Information: Activities for young children

Overwhelming is an understatement, but do go and you won't be disappointed. A perfect rainy day experience for all ages. Easily accessible from downtown Chicago via public transit. The Uboat exhibit is very interesting.

Tons to do here. Recommend the cityPass to skip long lines. Even so it took us 45 min to get through. Note: we didn’t get there till 11:00. Couldn’t get teenagers outta bed.

Recommend the Science area, the Oceans Dome movie, and the U Boat. That was amazing.

If you want to do flight simulators, the one where you only ride (cheaper one) is really lame. Not worth it.

Food court has something for everyone.

Took our ten year old and we all enjoyed eight hours of an awesome learning experience. He especially enjoyed the submarine. The film about the ocean was also great. We packed sandwiches and drinks which saved money and standing in long lines for lunch. Be sure to check free activities requiring tickets at the beginning of your visit so you can schedule those early. We arrived close to opening and found parking in the garage easy. A CityPass saved money on admission costs.

Right in the wheelhouse for kids under 10, and even the parents. So much to see, a full day can easily be spent @ MSI
