Nate was our family's guide. He was entertaining and informative. We had a great introduction and training session on our segways and then he took us on a 2.5 hour tour that was loads of fun. I highly recommend this company. A couple of tips: Wear cushiony shoes. Everyone's feet get tired and even a little numb. Good supportive shoes will help. If it's the slightest bit cool in Chicago, bring gloves and a hat!!! Going 10mph changes everything for your extremities. That includes wearing warm socks. Other than that, have a great time!

First of all, if you're looking at a Segway tour of a city, you have to split apart the experience of being on a Segway from the actual tour. We had been on one before in Copenhagen and fell in love with both the experience of being on a Segway, and also the tour. So that was our context for taking the tour in Chicago...

A second time on a Segway was almost as enjoyable as the first. It's like riding a bike--you DO remember it. But it is not the same euphoric experience the second time around. So for us today the SEGWAY driving/riding experience was more like a 9/10 instead of 10/10--again this is only regarding the physical experience of being on a Segway.

That said, the Chicago routing and tour was totally super. One tidbit: there is an airport shut down ten years ago that is now a park...only the occasional runner out there, and it is not far off of 1km from Soldier Field. Nobody out there except us--wonderful views of the lake and city. So there are lots of opportunities to whizz around places where nobody goes.

We had the fortune to be with Russell, who is a down-to-earth gentleman, who knows LOTS about the city (if you ask). If we had one comment about the trip (which we rated as 5 so it was great) it was advertised as an architectural tour. Sorry Segway guys that are going to read this, but it is not an archtectural tour in the way that one would expect. For people in the future booking, if you go, and DO want info, you simply need to ask as the info is brought forward passively. And Russell gave it! Many thanks.

On the Segway Copenhagen expereince we had, the helmets were outfitted with headphones and the leader gave a full commentray while we were driving/riding. In Chicago it is bike helmets, no comments. That said, Russell (again) was super and amusing (yes, some of the jokes are not new...neither are we, but both work!).

Thanks Russell, and you have inspired us to try this in another city at some time in the future!!

So my husband surprised me with a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Chicago. I didn't know where we were going until we got to the airport. The main reason for the destination choice was to go to a restaurant that was on my "bucket list", Alinea (another review).

On the first day we headed off and he wouldn't tell me what we were going to be doing. It turned out to be a tour with City Segway Tours. At first i thought he was trying to kill me and get the insurance. On the way there I tripped up one of Chicago's very high sidewalks and wiped out, so I was already hurting from bruised knees! My fears were unfounded as I got the hang of the machine very quickly. If you've ever ridden a horse you'll have no trouble with a segway. It responds to very slight foot pressure and body movements.

This was a great tour - loved every minute of it. Tara, our guide, was just great and made it a wonderful experience.

Note - the weather was supposed to be good but that windy city wind was cold and I was freezing after an hour. Take a jacket. Also be prepared to have sore feet by the end, standing on the segway for three hours is like standing still, hard on the feet.
