This luxury villa was the greatest holiday experience of my life! I am an Australian who has been traveling over 100 plus trips through Europe and Asia mixing business and pleasure. I chose Provence for a three month holiday/party to celebrate my 60th birthday.
Luckily I had the house full with friends and family for the twelve weeks from mid April to early July 2012.
What a winner this estate is with beautiful gardens, a fabulous pool and a luxurious villa with six huge bedrooms (5 bathrooms)! This is a six star residence. It is a private, authentic and a safe environment. The huge plane trees out the front of the house means we tended to live outside under their shade. Just heaven. Great to party every day if you wish! The layout includes a large games room with great outdoor space.
The caretaker, gardener and housekeeper were exceptional, having the unusual combination of friendliness with a high level of professionalism. When we arrived fresh vegetables, groceries and fruit together with some Champagne and local wines greeted us. Overwhelming hospitality! The tarrif is not unsubstantial but for what you get it is true value.
Everyone who came to stay still says that like me this was their best holiday experience! Remember these people travelled from the other side of the world. Obviously the superb Provence weather, food and wine helped. The locals were also very friendly and welcoming if you make an effort with just a smattering of French they respond very positively.
Mas Agarde, as the property is named , is in the middle of orchids and is a short bike ride from a small village of Les Vigneres and just 5 klm's from the city of Cavaillon. I was a bit worried about Cavaillon as it is not as highly regarded as say Saint Remy or some of the hill top towns but boy was I wrong! Cavaillon has great restaurants and quality shopping without the tourist crowds(and prices). It is not small, population around 25,000, so everything is available. Cavaillon is only 15-20 minutes to Avignon so it is easy to pick up guests arriving on the TGV.
Possibly the biggest asset is the location as it is in the centre of the best villages in Provence with most only 20 minutes away at most. These towns have outstanding weekly markets with the best, Isle le Sorgue less than ten minutes away. But everywhere you went there was another great experience around the bend, with something for the most discerning dinners to cheap bars/ bistros and breathtaking historic villages.
In summary MAGNIFIQUE! I want to be there NOW!
