“Best Indian Buffet in Boise”
Reviewed 17 June 2012

After moving to Boise from Portland, Oregon in 2001, I thought I'd never find a decent Indian restaurant in town. I tried a couple of existing Indian places over the years, but either the service was horrible or the food just wasn't up to par. Recently, the Bombay Grill has really come into its own with the best Indian food in the Treasure Valley; the lunch buffet is where it really shines. The spicy heat in the buffet food isn't watered down for the masses; the lamb vindaloo packs just the right amount of punch, and the mango chicken and chicken kashmir bring the heat as well. The vegetarian items are very flavorful, the tandoori chicken is never too dry, and the gulab jamum is never too sweet. I recently brought a friend from work who had never had Indian food and was always a bit "scared" of it, and now she's a Bombay Grill addict. The head chef is very friendly and will often come out and say hello to repeat visitors. The location inside the ancient Idanha Hotel (haunted, by the way) lends an unusual ambience. Highly recommended.

“Relishable Indian food in Boise.... after a long time”
Reviewed 11 June 2012

I have been living in Boise for quite a few years and an obvious complaint about Boise was the lack of variety in ethnic restaurants, besides few others. The present team at Bombay Grille has done an excellent job in adding some taste to what Boise offers. The food is tasty, well cooked, the portions are the right size and the serving of naan and paraatha breads (an important consideration!) is excellent. Besides, the menu has lots of variety and what I like the eagerness of the owners to cook customized dishes for you with an advanced notice. This fixes my tendency to run away to San Francisco or Salt Lake just to try some good Indian cooking.

“Delicious food, friendly and welcoming service”
Reviewed 5 June 2012

The food prepared at this restaurant is fresh and made with a delightful combination of spices and sauces. Lunch buffet is especially delightful because of the variety of dishes to sample, accompanied by hot chai tea and freshly baked Naan. Service is very good and friendly too.

“Short staffed on our visit - service was horrible”
Reviewed 21 May 2012

The food was pretty good but the service was a joke - we eventually asked the guy who seated & served us if they were short-staffed & he apologetically said yes, his 2 children didn't show up for work that evening.

When we arrived, it took 5 minutes of waiting in the tiny lobby area before someone greeted us. Then it was literally 40 minutes before we even got water. Good thing we were patient & not starving. Plus we really wanted Indian food.

One couple who came in after us ended up just getting up & leaving after a half an hour, having received no service at all after being seated.

The guy who served us (the owner, I believe) finally brought us our water at the same time as our beer (he took the beer order 20 minutes after we were seated, because we flagged him down when he walked near us to attend to the one other remaining group in the tiny restaurant). He delivered each drink to us individually by hand from another area of the restaurant. In other words, he brought ONE water, set it down on the table, walked away, came back with one beer, set it down, walked away, came back with another water, etc. Clearly not someone who was used to being a server.

The food, which our party of 4 shared amongst ourselves, was pretty tasty, but when we were done, the dirty dishes sat on our table for a half hour before the guy came by again. And when he did come by, he took our empty beer glasses, and left the tons of dirty dishes! Really? Of all the things that needed to be removed from the small table, he took the glasses?

Finally the bill showed up and we paid, after piling the dirty dishes on top of each other to make room to look at the check. We felt so sorry for the guy - he was clearly clueless and must have had something going on in the back room - that we did choose to leave a small tip. But for heaven's sake - an apology would have been nice, or better yet, a discount for the horrible service.
