The Idaho State Capitol is a beautiful building filled with rich white and grey marbling, towering staircases and interesting art. At Christmas time it's decorated with deep reds, evergreens and golds. Local chiors often preform free concerts filing the high ceilings and long hallways with beautiful Christmas music. Check the website for tours times and special events.

So worth the visit to the State Capitol Building in Idaho, the architecture is as impressive as any of the old buildings in Europe. My husband was not interested in going at all, once we started walking up the steps to enter his tune quickly changed, he was fascinated. This is a free attraction so if you’re in Boise don’t miss out.

This is a nice place to stop for a few minutes. We saw everything we were interested in in half and hour. There is metered parking on the street in front of the capitol. There is a lot of different colored granite inside and it's very beautiful to look at. They also had very nice, clean bathrooms. The bottom floor contains a small visitors center and gift shop.

Just walked around the outside during our visit to downtown Boise. Lawns are well kept. Nice photo op.

Go inside to view all the marble! We climbed all three floors and checked out the Senate Rooms. Gorgeous!

When I was in Olympia a while back, I could see the beautiful capital building as I was running/walking around the lake, but it wasn't clear how I could get to it on foot. No so, with the Boise capital building. Just a few minutes walk from the hubbub of restaurants and bars. It's up on a hill, so it's easy to spot. Also, it is fairly isolated with no other major buildings blocking it visually, so once you see it from a far, you just head straight towards it. There's an odd "Desert Storm" memorial on the lawn as you head towards the main building. It is super small and looks like a grave, an afterthought?!? Easy to include this whole stop on a walk through this very walk-able downtown.

Happened to be in Boise for a race and were out sightseeing on a Saturday. We stopped by the state capital. Surprisingly, it was open. Even more surprisingly, we walked right in and literally no one is around. In our state, you would have at least seen a security presence. The historic building was beautiful inside. White marble throughout. Loved the fact you could easily see into the Senate and House chambers. Cute little gift shop. Definitely worth the time.

Went while the legislature was not in session. Like having the place to yourself. Beautiful marble interior and wonderful dome.
Cool seeing the legislative chambers. Worth spending an hour visiting.

Capitol building fairly empty as legislature not in session. Kudos to Idaho for early strong women active in government and securing voting rights for Idaho women. The drawings of various competitors for the job of designing and building the Idaho State Capitol were very interesting, as well as the translation of expense and costs to 'today's dollars.' Sounds like graft and corruption, making off with the state treasury, etc. have been part of our beginnings in many of the states.

This is an open venue capital building, very well maintained. Visitors may wander all over the place, and when the legislature is in session, may join the peanut gallery. During holidays, the building is dressed festively. Marble abounds in this building, so you get the feeling of walking in a classic facility. Small enough to be cozy and large enough to be serious. Give yourself about an hour for this visit to downtown Boise's most prominent building.
