Owner description: Fort Pulaski National Monument has one of the best preserved nineteenth century masonry fortifications in the United States. It was also the site of a major artillery duel during the Civil War that saw the first major use of rifled artillery in battle. You can tour the fortress, see living historians bringing the past to life, or watch an artillery demonstration that really immerses visitors with the sights and sounds of conflict. The monument however, is more than just a fort. We have over 5000 acres of pristine saltwater marsh, one of the largest concentrations of marsh along the coast of Georgia. Combine that with miles of trails and you have a great way to get away from our cultural history and surround yourself with the natural beauty of Cockspur Island, the heart of the monument.

Wow, I learned a lot at this Fort.
If you want to see a real Fort and look through the areas that cannons fired, here’s a chance.
We walked around for 2 hours. It was incredible to see the thickness of the walls, the damage from the Union attack and to learn how it put this Fort “out of business “.

Don’t know if I would have enjoyed it as much if we didn’t make the ranger guided tour. It was very interesting and so full of good information about the history of the fort and the Savannah/Tybee area. If we had done self guided, I don’t think it would have been as memorable. My advice is the make sure you check the website for when the ranger tour are and plan accordingly. Memorable day!!!

This looks like such a cool attraction. We were very disappointed to get there and find out that we were unable to tour the inside.

This was our 5th park in 8 hours from Florida up the coast! It was our favorite sight this trip! Wish we would have left more time! If in the area, this is worth seeing and learning the history of the area! Loved the stamps we collected here!
