When we visited they were recovering from a huge Tweed river flood (75mm in the cafe). The staff are friendly and decor is basic however filled with lots of collectibles. Soup was my choice.

Tumbulgum is a special place. A mecca for weekend road warriors.
Motorised and not.

Sunday morning, sun shining low on the horizon, Mt Warning in the distance with her usual lone cloud.

If you are in the village before the pub opens, then there are lots of café to choose from.

The Birdwing is the cosiest, old fashioned, lots to look at inside. Grab a pew in the front courtyard, watch the boaties do their thang...and admire your own trusty steed.
It's a biker thang.

This is a favourite stop for us, on the moto, Sunday morning for a caffeine hit and the co-pilot's HOT chocolate in a mug please, make that lac free and EXTRA HOT please (afterall ,it is a HOT chocolate?)

Don't be in a rush at the Birdwing. Good things take time (and bring the paper money cause there's no interwebben) Relax, take in the views.

We share a corn and asparagus pie. Noice.
My double espress soon kicks in and.. wait...
The co-pilot declares "the best hot chocolate I've ever had!".
This must be taken note of.
My femme knows her hot choc.. Tasted H.C.'s on several continents.
Be advised!
All this for change out of a $20

After congratulating ourselves and goggling another punters new 1200GS, we hop on "El Dell" and disappear at 40 kph southbound.

Hats off to the locals. Tumbulgum has done a lot of work since the flood. The waters reached higher than the 1957 levels. Still work to do but the place seems back to normal down the main drag.

Do it!

Bird wing is a great place for breakfast and lunch. They make great pizzas which they are happy to deliver to you if you want to sit in the riverside park opposite their cafe. They will also bring coffee to you. Good when you have dogs and children who want to run around on the grass. Tumbulgum is a pretty village on the tweed river between tweed heads and murwillumbah.
