Second stay at Cloister with our son (18 months this trip) and we loved it even more this time. Though the resort was operating at 100% capacity with Easter/Spring Breakers, the staff was gracious and somehow remembered us every where we went (magic!)

The Easter egg extravaganza was so much fun! My husband had blast on the plantation course and we all loved the dolphin cruise. We even saw a brand new baby dolphin. My son loves the koi, turtles, and love birds and the afternoon cookie break is our new tradition.

We can’t wait for our son to experience everything the resort has to offer as he grows up. (And so many new things for us to do on future visits).

A few service professionals made our stay extra special. Hats off to:
Shannon-Southern Tide
Blair-Yacht club

Thank you Cloister! We are so sad to say goodbye but can’t wait to plan our return.

We just left the Cloisters at Sea Island, with our heads shaking. We celebrated our wedding anniversary here a year ago and the place could not have been more perfect.

We thought it was just a glitch when the reservation people left us sitting in our car for 3 hours, with us calling every half hour and their employees assuring us that we would be in within a few minutes. So, this trip started out with 3 hours in their parking lot in the car. The story continues when we found out that our dinner reservations at "their restaurant" was a 15 minute ride.

Unfortunately, we were on a tight schedule the next morning and after 3 phone calls and 45 minutes of waiting, room service never showed up.

Probably the most disturbing part, and consistent thread of our negative experience was due to the misrepresentations and the numerous lying by their staff. This time their consistency was in poor service.

Has there been a management change? It is a shame because you can tell they have invested a lot of money in the property.

We had a wonderful stay as always.. So much to do at this property. Most spacious hotel rooms of any type you book.. room size definitely blows the doors off the competition.. 4th time here in the last 2 years and it never gets old. There was No pool or beach service which bothered my wife, but does not affect me a bit, I'd rather go to the bar to order my drinks anyways.. Breakfast buffet at Southern Tide is gone which is a bummer when staying in the beach club, but oh well.. Easter Brunch was over the top fantastic.. Fantastic getaway anytime, Incredible staff!

Room Tip: Stay in the Beach Club with kids

We recently went to Sea Island for spring break. We spent part of the week at The Cloister and part at The Beach Club.
First the good parts: The property is beautiful & definitely has the old southern look and charm. The garden wing of the Cloister has been recently updated and is very nice, the other rooms are in need of an update but are still well-maintained, clean, comfortable & good size. We ate at most of the property's restaurants - most were very good & the restaurant staff was impressive. Bingo is very fun especially for kids! Horseback riding & archery very cool experiences you don't get most places!
We enjoyed our time here, not complaining but want everyone to know what to expect & I wouldn't say this is a five star property. Southern Tide restaurant food/service average. Staff not overly accommodating & acted bothered when asked for something. For example, it was raining & we requested a ride from Beach Club to Cloister, the staff & driver both acted very annoyed. Complimentary light breakfast until 10 at the Cloister....we went at 930 & were told "when it's gone, it's gone." We were told they'd extend indoor pool hours (open 1-3 for kids) on cold/rainy days - they didn't. During a busy week, must get there early to claim pool chairs. There is no food/beverage service at the pool.
Also FYI: Most guests wear dresses & sport coats in the evenings - even at the more casual restaurants & even for kids.

I would like to hope that this old school Resort delivers exceptional service normally. My advice is just do not pay up to be here for Easter, 4th of July or Christmas because, although the area is beautiful, the service is poor and the holiday rate is high. This photo is from the room service we ordered over a day ago and asked that they please pick up twice.
