“Wonderful dinner”
Reviewed 5 April 2012

This restaurant is tucked away off the main street; it was a nice, white tablecloth dinner with attentive service and good food. Sometimes when you go to the beach, you want to get away from the loud and noisy and just have a cozy meal with your loved one. Georgia Sea Grill fit the bill!

“Not a total disaster, but close.”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

Tacky, touristy and tired, for the most part. Georgia Sea Island grill blends those qualities nicely to ensure a substandard dining experience. Touting itself as fine seafood dining, it is anything but. It has all the ambiance of a chain of diners like Denny's or Shoney's. Notably, we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation. Rather than inform us that the restaurant had a bar, the hostess told us that our table would be ready at our reservation time. We took the hint and left. We returned and started out with martinis. Mine was served in a cracked glass.

Its staff is slow but hurried. They look overworked and underpaid. Although they were friendly and got our orders correct, we couldn't help but wonder whether the servers were also preparing the food.

The food itself is not awful, though our Buttermilk Oysters were far to large and, well, oystery. We could not eat more than one each, and we became nauseated. This appetizer was anything but appetizing. The house salad was nothing more than a few mixed greens on a very small plate next to one cherry tomato and a few feta cheese crumbles. A couple of small pieces of red onion looked as though they were dropped in accidentally.

Our entrees were okay, but just. I had a combo of parmesan-crusted grouper and a crabcake with cajun risotto. As promised the seafood tasted fresh, but the presentation was awful. The grouper was so heavily crusted, it looked like a hash brown patty, and the crab cake could have fit neatly on a silver dollar. Served on a basic plate that looked like it came from Wal-Mart, the risotto was simply slopped on with a few shards of green onion. My wife had a crab cake with the mushroom risotto. Again, no presentation, but she said she enjoyed the risotto.

All of this made for a fairly miserable dining experience, but nothing could top the tap water. It was putrid. I've never tasted toilet water, but, if I had to guess, I'd say that's what they were serving at the Georgia Sea Grill. That may not be the restaurant's fault, but they REALLY need to offer bottled water.

We would not recommend this restaurant.

“Boring decor and gloppy sauces”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

Decor is old, dark and boring. Try some flowers on the tables. The food is OK, but the heavy sauces hide what should be FRESH fish. We have tried this several times and won't be back.

“Great job with Rehearsal Dinner for my son's wedding”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for approximately 70 people and Sarah and her staff did a great job. She worked diligently with me in advance to make sure every detail was handled and the food and service were excellent. In addition to that, I had shopped numerous other venues on St. Simons and what we ended up with was not only top quality, but a good value. Throughout the rest of the wedding weekend we continued to get compliments on what a wonderful event we had.
