“Under Construction”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

Went to Ft Frederica to Explore. The main building museum was being renovated so could only walk the grounds and watch a short film. Beautiful Trees with Spanish moss and basic foundations of the the fort from 1742, Very Old. Will help you burn a few hours on St Simons Island.

“The visitor center and museum was closed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2012

The day we visited the visitor center and museum is undergoing renovations so there was really not much to see. We walked around the grounds which was very interesting but overall there is not a lot to see here until the renovations are done.

Decent video before hand; more peaceful than it is educational.

“A great place for 1.5 hours with toddlers!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

We took two toddlers here and enjoyed the grand expanse. The ruins are set between ancient trees hung with Spanish moss...great place for kids to run and explore while the adults absorb a little history.

“Fort Frederica: a nice walk in a park setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 February 2012

Fort Frederica doesn't have many attractions compared to other parks. Few remains or ruins. Few markers. Limited gift shop. But it's a beautiful property of a town once important that is now long gone. It's well documented. Makes a wonderful walk around the markings of what was a town, to the ruins on the water, and the cemetery. Great place to take kids with lots of energy. They won't bother anyone.

Check in advance for reenactments or special programs. The fort has many special programs.

And don't miss the monument for the actual Battle of Bloody marsh site - on the southern end of the island several miles from Fort Frederica.
