My family and I made the journey to Little Ocmulgee State Park and Lodge so that my 8 year-old Jr Ranger could attend Survivor Camp and earn the corresponding badge. Ranger Jodi, by herself, was worth the trip!!! Over the course of 3 hours or so, she taught a group of 10, 5 to 12 years olds (and their parents) the rudiments of how to start a fire, how to cook over fire, how to build a survival shelter, plants and wildlife, etc! She was truly amazing in her professionalism, knowledge, presentation and command of the group! This is a person that loves her job and is exceptional at it! We left enhanced for having met her and the whole magilla cost $15 (total) and the $5 state-required parking pass.
The Lodge:
My family and I enjoy traveling around and especially in our own state of Georgia. We have visited multiple state parks across the state in multiple regions. This state park was not one of the best. First, the lake at this time is FULL of some kind of invasive plant species. Some of the local people who I spoke to at the park reported that it has been 'a problem for several years now." This makes the fishing not the best. The "country store" or camp grocery store / gift shop / whatever they want to call it was closed and a sign said it is no longer open to the public. The playground was nice and there were some nice picnic areas. The splash pad looked nice but was closed. I think we will stick to some of the other state parks that we have visited and bypass this one next time. The bathrooms were also very nasty with maintenance issues and no supplies. Not all state park bathrooms are like these.
If you need a place to kick back with the family, this is it. My family hosts their reunion here each year and we always enjoy it. There are several spots you can gather including an air conditioned pavilion. Lots of activities such as golf, canoeing, and hiking. You can rent a cabin or stay in the lodge. The lodge has a restraunt on site and although a little dated, the rooms are very clean and comfortable. Most of all, the staff is very friendly and efficient.
The golf is always a great value. The Campsites are wonderful especially the pull through's. We would see deer every night. The restrooms were always clean and very nice. I will make it a stop every year!
Had a great 5 days of camping in RV, very clean restrooms, great lodge and food at a great price. Loved the lake ( low water this year) but very relaxing walking trails in and around the lake. plenty of things to do without leaving the campground. highly recommend this State Park for all old and young. Well done and very clean. George
We recently enjoyed a weekend of camping at Little Ocmulgee State Park. While there, we also enjoyed some hiking and kayaking (we brought our own - they only rent canoes). The bath houses were very clean and water was hot, and the trails were clearly marked. There's miniature golf, a lodge/restaurant, a splash pad for kids, golf course, and multiple covered picnic pavilions on the grounds. We definitely recommend this park.
