What an absolutely magical place. My husband and I travelled to Helen for our honeymoon and it was just perfect.. The owner contacted us the morning after we arrived (as we flew in late) just to ensure we had arrived safely. The place was so well kitted out the patio and the hot tub were amazing. Our last night was October 31st as we were sitting in the hot tub the wind was howling the leaves were floating and all of a sudden snowflakes started to whisp by it is a memory that will be forever etched in my mind.. love love loved it.
This cabin is located at the end of a long gravel road. You think your secluded but the main highway is just down the hill. This place was nice and clean and great for the wife and I needing a place to relax and get away from the hustle of emails and the stress of work. Far enough off of the beaten path to be secluded but close enough to be in town in 10-15 minutes.
We stayed at the Bear Affair in late April 2015 for our 2-year anniversary, All other reviews we have seen have been on the rental website VRBO and all reviews were 5 stars. We had very high hopes for the cabin, and just about everything was as-described, except for a couple things. Unfortunately, one of the problems we had severely affected our stay.
-Very private (close to another cabin, but can barely be seen through trees)
-AMAZING, 6-person hot tub with 2 jet settings and color-changing light, and "outdoor living room" with party lights, cushioned rockers and loveseat. Even an overhead light and fan if you want it!
-Owner obviously takes great care of the cabin, there are even carpenter bee traps to keep them away and citronella candles provided
-Well stocked cabin with creamer, coffee, zip-lock bags, etc.
-Several board and card games available
-Perfect size for two people
-VERY close to downtown Helen - barely 10 minutes - and only a couple of miles from Anna Ruby Falls
-Although the cabin is pretty private, there is actually a highway just down the hill, and you can frequently hear cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc. going by.
-King bed hard as a rock. Now, some people can sleep on firm beds easily enough, but to us, this was like a wooden board with springs underneath. The first night, we tried taking melatonin to help sleep, and gave up around 3am and ended up trying to sleep on the pull-out bed downstairs. Which, thankfully, is far softer than the King bed (the pull-out is La-Z-Boy brand) but it's still a pull-out bed, so it's not quite as nice as a bed. The second night, we had the same problem. After two days of sleep deprivation, you just get cranky. We ended up hanging out at the cabin on our last night, but driving home that night instead of trying to stay overnight and checking out at 10am. We loved hanging out at the cabin, we just couldn't sleep :(
Overall, this is a very cozy cabin, it is clean and taken care of. If we could handle firm mattresses, we would have absolutely LOVED every aspect of the cabin. SO, if you can handle a very firm bed, or if you have a king-sized foam mat/memory foam pad you can bring, we'd recommend it! But just be aware the bed is FIRM, so be prepared for that. :)
