Our room was right on the river on the third floor. The view was beautiful, but very noisy. We also found that quiet time is not enforced on the premises which is an issue when travelling with small children. There were people partying right outside our room until well after midnight. The balcony furniture was plastic and left a lot to be desired. There was also not a table to put things on when out there. It was such a nice balcony that it is a shame not to be comfortable out there. The room had a lot of space which was nice for our family of 5. We brought a play pen for our 3 year old to sleep in. The continental breakfast was convenient and very basic (cereal, bagels, muffins, honey buns, etc). The kids loved the steps leading directly to the river and enjoyed playing in the river. The pool was small but clean and we enjoyed it. Next time I will ask for a riverfront room on the bottom floor. The room was very clean and cute. It definitely fit the theme of Helen. The staff was very friendly.

The Helendorf Hotel is an older hotel built in the 1970's. The rooms have recently been renovated. We found our suite to be large, very clean and accommodating with a small oven, refrigerator and microwave. There was also a table with chairs for extra seating and dining. We had a 3rd floor room with a balcony overlooking the Chattahoochie river rapids. It was great fun to stand on the balcony and watch the mass of people tubing down the river try to negotiate the rapids. However, it was a little loud with the giggling and squealing of the people enjoying their tubing experience. If you want to sit on the balcony and enjoy the serenity of the river during the day in the summer, you are out of luck.

The Helendorf is located in an excellent location in Helen within walking distance of many restaurants and downtown shopping.

We enjoyed our visit very much.

Room Tip: A balcony room overlooking the river would be ideal.

The hotel has been newly renovated. The rooms are nice and clean. Affordable too.
There are lots of outdoor activities and historic Helen Ga. is a wonderful get away.
The river is perfect for tubing and a perfect activity for the children.

We spent Memorial Day weekend at the Helendorf Inn, in a river-view balcony room.

The location was fantastic. The hotel is right in the heart of Helen, making it easy to walk to all the shops and restaurants. (Which is very convenient, because traffic on Helen's one main road was awful!) But, despite it's central location, the hotel was surprisingly quiet. Our room overlooked the river and you could sit on the balcony and forget that you were in the middle of town.

It was fun to sit on the balcony, listen to the water and watch people floating by on their inner tubes. (Be warned, during the heart of the day, when the river is busy with tubers, the river can get quite loud, with laughter and talking. But the river tours end a few hours before dark and don't get busy until mid-morning. So, you can still have plenty of quiet hours on your balcony.)

It is an older property, with the feel of the quaint road-side hotels from an earlier time.(They still have real room keys!) Like other older properties, the walls are thin and you could hear quite a bit of noise from the parking lot through the older door. (The doors open onto breeze-ways overlooking the parking lot.) But they've invested in some key upgrades that made the rooms quite comfortable, including completely renovating the bathrooms and there was plenty of hot water. (Which is something you can't always be sure of in older hotels.)

Nice hotel with a nice German feel, People are honest and friendly. Location is perfectly situated in the middle of the town. The room had a patio with a view of the River. Everything is within walking distance from here. There is a great German restaurant across the street and a Mexican restaurant that serves killer margaritas around the corner. I would recommend this hotel. The city of Helen is a very fun place to visit...
