On a "girls road trip," we had three rooms and a very pleasant overnight stay at Bagby State Park. The staff we encountered were more than friendly and helpful. Everything was clean. We enjoyed breakfast in the dining room and hiked around near the lake before leaving.

We just stayed one night on our way to Callaway Gardens. We thought the restaurant would be open but on weeknights it is closed. This park is way off the beaten path so be sure to bring in food. We had to drive 22 miles to Alabama to find that all their restaurants are closed on Monday. Settled for overpriced small market fried chicken dinner take-out. The lake was beautiful but the lodge rooms did not have a view. With only 3 other guests on a weeknight it was a little creepy although the room was adequate. Probably a different experience on busy weekends. Fun to see deer everywhere at dusk!

I travel for a living and I thought to try the state park when work took me near there. I stayed at one of the two bedroom cottages. It was way more space than I needed, on the lake shore. All the amenities of home are there, including a stove and oven, refrigerator, microwave, etc. The air conditioning is great. Towels and linens are included. The beds are a little tired, but comfortable. Bring your own pillow. The bathroom has a nice walk-in shower. Overall, it is a little dated, but rustic cozy. The 70s called and want their paneling back, lol. The staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Pack some groceries, for the food choices are few and far between. Luckily the kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans and dishes. Try Rubo's grocery in Fort Gaines, but it is borderline sketchy. Don't trust your GPS. On my first attempt, it had me "arrive" in the middle of a rutted dirt road in the middle of an abandoned field. I think it was Wrens Nest Road. Do not go there. Stay on the main road and follow the brown signs to the state park. Have fun, you won't find better lodgings within 50 or 75 miles. The lake view alone is amazing.

Room Tip: Any cottage!

We had our family reunion golf tourney at Meadow Links golf course and spent 2 nights at the lodge. The lodge is in a beautiful, woodsy location that is far off the main road. The lodge area is very clean and well maintained. Going along with the remote setting, the rooms have a rustic, country feel. Don't expect the rooms to be what you would get in an upscale hotel. It is clean with plenty of towels, coffee maker, iron, microwave and mini fridge in each room. The golfers had nothing but good things to say about the course. The restaurant could have offered more of a variety of choices on the menu for lunch and dinner as there is only about 5 sandwiches and chicken tenders all served with fries. Breakfast has a little more to offer than lunch and dinner. The dining room is spacious, with plenty of windows that overlook the serene view of the lake. The facility has bikes for all ages at no charge that you can use, hiking/walking/biking trails, an outdoor pool, wifi and a dock that could be used to fish from. Boats/canoes that you can rent from the marina (within walking distance) for a very reasonable price. Plus cottages for larger families to rent with even a better view of the lake. It was nice to get away from the hustle and bustle to relax in such a peaceful place! We saw deer, red foxes and other wild life enjoying the area as well. But please be aware that there is very few places to shop (for necessities) or restaurants to chose from in the nearby area. The town of Ft. Gaines is well off the beaten path and looks like it has had fallen on hard times however is the nearest town to the park/lodge. The location of the lodge is perfect to get back to nature, enjoy time with your family, play a round of golf and just enjoy a simpler way of life.

Pleasantly surprised. Well maintained camp grounds. Clean rooms. Great price for buffet meals. Not pleased with requirements/payment process! Nice staff. Manager extremely knowledgable and shared information regarding property and its management.
