“Done right - but a long wait ”
Review of Revival Restaurant

Revival Restaurant
Ranked #14 of 422 Restaurants in Decatur
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Kevin Gillespie's restaurant, Revival is a nod to the chef's formative years, offering a proper version of the traditional Sunday dinner served family-style and executed with his precise techniques. Following Gillespie's allegiance to Southern cuisine, Revival focuses on farm-fresh ingredients and a dining experience that reflects the traditions his own family follows. The menu at Revival mimics what one would find at Gillespie's grandmother's house - a classic, Southern spread featuring seasonal options that change daily - but features more refined techniques and the highest quality ingredients.

5/20/2018 - Sunday Brunch 1:00 PM. My and I arrived 20 minuets early and expected by 1pm but wasn’t seated until 1:20 PM This kept me from giving this restaurant 5 stars. The food was prepared just right and the coffee was good. Breakfast Plate $12 coffee $3. The management needs to get a better handle on their reservation schedule.

I don’t like to give bad reviews. But this restaurant earned it. We were there to celebrate some very special occasions
and was disappointed. Not enough help. The waiter was harried, busing tables while waiting on too many. The staff was consistently unable to respond to simple requests ie “A dessert menu please?” or “Can you please pull the blind?” They’d politely respond yes with no follow through at all.
The food was just ok. The biscuits brought to the table first, were exceptional. But the wait between ordering and getting our food was absurd. There are so many wonderful restaurants in Atlanta, run well with excellent
food. “Two thumbs down” on this one.

Our son and his family took us here. A variety of southern dishes were wonderful. We loved the old home and atmosphere. We will definitely come back to this restaurant when we return to the area.

I’ve been here twice. Once with a large group, and we did family style dining, and once with a smaller group, ordering a la carte.
For a larger group, for the most part, family style is the way to go. They are a little heavy on the lesser popular sides (beets for example) and you have to pay extra for arguably the most popular side (Mac and Cheese). But we were celebrating a milestone birthday for a friend and prepared to pay to enjoy a very nice dinner. We were put in a private room, which was good because we tend to get loud and obnoxious as the wine flows. The cornbread is delicious and all the food is really good, as are the desserts.
We were sat on the enclosed porch on my second visit and it’s very lovely out there. Ordering a la carte on this visit didn’t seem to make it much more expensive than splitting a family style bill, but let’s be real here...this is an upscale place and not a run of the mill meat and three. You pay for what you get, and what you’re getting here is gourmet southern cooking.
The staff was nice and well informed on the menu, which is to be expected at a restaurant such as this one. They offer valet parking. One last thing; this restaurant is in a house, so its layout is unique and lends to the charm of this establishment.

I took my husband there for his birthday. Revival was his favorite restaurant because of family style and banana pudding, certainly not because of the price or proximity to our house. They would not let us have family style or allow us to order banana pudding, even though I offered to buy the one for 4 people! And, it was my husband’s birthday! Horrible customer service. We will not be back!
