“Upscale southern dining”
Review of Revival Restaurant

Revival Restaurant
Ranked #14 of 391 Restaurants in Decatur
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Kevin Gillespie's restaurant, Revival is a nod to the chef's formative years, offering a proper version of the traditional Sunday dinner served family-style and executed with his precise techniques. Following Gillespie's allegiance to Southern cuisine, Revival focuses on farm-fresh ingredients and a dining experience that reflects the traditions his own family follows. The menu at Revival mimics what one would find at Gillespie's grandmother's house - a classic, Southern spread featuring seasonal options that change daily - but features more refined techniques and the highest quality ingredients.

I’ve been here twice. Once with a large group, and we did family style dining, and once with a smaller group, ordering a la carte.
For a larger group, for the most part, family style is the way to go. They are a little heavy on the lesser popular sides (beets for example) and you have to pay extra for arguably the most popular side (Mac and Cheese). But we were celebrating a milestone birthday for a friend and prepared to pay to enjoy a very nice dinner. We were put in a private room, which was good because we tend to get loud and obnoxious as the wine flows. The cornbread is delicious and all the food is really good, as are the desserts.
We were sat on the enclosed porch on my second visit and it’s very lovely out there. Ordering a la carte on this visit didn’t seem to make it much more expensive than splitting a family style bill, but let’s be real here...this is an upscale place and not a run of the mill meat and three. You pay for what you get, and what you’re getting here is gourmet southern cooking.
The staff was nice and well informed on the menu, which is to be expected at a restaurant such as this one. They offer valet parking. One last thing; this restaurant is in a house, so its layout is unique and lends to the charm of this establishment.

I took my husband there for his birthday. Revival was his favorite restaurant because of family style and banana pudding, certainly not because of the price or proximity to our house. They would not let us have family style or allow us to order banana pudding, even though I offered to buy the one for 4 people! And, it was my husband’s birthday! Horrible customer service. We will not be back!

We had the family meal (4 adults three small children), which was nice because we were able to sample many dishes. We loved the salad, trout dip with vegetables, and corn bread. The fried chicken was crispy and moist, the Mac and cheese delicious, and the meatloaf had a great BBQ sauce on it. We weren’t crazy about the potato salad and collard greens. We felt very welcomed by all who waited on us. It was a bit pricey, we enjoyed it.

I went here on a Friday evening with five friends and loved it! We had reservations for 7:30 pm, arrived early and were even seated early. I would recommend reservations because it was very busy. The place is very inviting, yet chic and contemporary. They also have valet for parking, which is tight in Decatur. We started with drinks, but went straight to dinner with no appetizers, aside from some bread. We opted for the family style and added two orders of catfish plus some asparagus and potato salad. Everything was so good. It started with the seasonal salad and pimento cheese tray, which were both good. Then, for entrees we had the fried chicken and meatloaf, which were excellent. As mentioned earlier, we added the catfish (excellent) and asparagus and potato salad (both good). The veggies with the family style was charred brussel sprouts (excellent) and mac and cheese (excellent). Then, as if we were not stuffed, banana pudding was the dessert and was so good. All of the food was good and the family style was a neat way to try many of their items. My only complaint is that it took a bit too long to get our entrees as well as dessert. This is a good place for a small group and both kids and adults, alike.

JCT was exactly what we expected to be which is amazing. The service was exceptional and it was southern hospitality you expect. (Shout out to the gentleman in the front working the hostess stand).

The Sunday super menu was an unusual but a really cool idea. The food was simply amazing! The fried chicken was perfectly seasoned and carried a nice spicy kick. (The chicken falls of the bone and melts in your mouth)
My wife order the artic char and she loved it! The fish was very flavorful and carried a nice texture.

You must come and try this place. It’s a bit busy so beware but it is worth it.
