Thanks to the fantastic team at Green Rinjani, my friend and I completed the trek. It would have been easier if we had prepared more physically (more stairs training!!).
Our guide Aril was nothing short of amazing. The porters Sudir, Nas and Tono were equally awesome. Like everyone else, totally amazing at the 25-30kg weight they carried effortlessly up and down the mountain that made our trek so easy. The food the guys cooked was awesome, in fact I ate too much which hampered my ability to climb as you eat then walk straight away!
Aril was so patient with us slow pokes. He patiently waited for us to climb or descend the entire trip and would help us a lot - showing us where to step, giving us a hand when necessary. I didn't think I'd make the summit, but he climbed the summit with my friend, I said I wouldn't but then decided to try on my own. 20 minutes from the top they were descending and Aril was happy to help me get to the top. So he helped us both to the summit/climbed it twice with us. There was no way I could have done it if it weren't for him practically carrying me to the summit. Coming down was easy and he made it fun!
Sudir, Nas and Tono remembered what we liked to drink and would have it prepared for us whenever it was meal time. They were just all smiles and always happy to help us.
The camp sites were nothing short of spectacular. It was an epic trip. I can't say the view at the summit is worth it, but it's the entire journey that is worth while. In retrospect, loved every moment of it.
The rubbish on the mountain is atrocious and I wish there were some way to educate the local tour operators to not do this. Green Rinjani are an excellent company that they make sure they bring down all the rubbish with them. In fact the boss checks to make sure they bring their rubbish down.
I want to do it again. Highly recommend Green Rinjani (they were recommended to me).
Things I am glad I brought:
1. Gloves for the summit
2. Small bar of soap
The photos on my iPhone were sufficient, my DSLR was just extra unnecessary weight.
Happy trekking! Terima Kasih Mr Airee, Aril, Sudir, Nas and Tono!
