Pavilion – Half Moon
Aug 17-24, 2013. After much anticipation, our one year of planning this dream vacation was finally arriving! My husband and I went on this vacation with three other couples. We chose this villa because of the master bedrooms, the unlimited golfing, the pool, and access to Half Moon Resort. And, it did not disappoint us at all.
Once getting through customs, some of us decided to convert US dollars to Jamaican dollars – this was not a wise choice - the rate is lower at the airport – if you are going to do this, do it outside the airport. This was a tip the villa driver (Trevor) told us – a little too late for a few us – but a good tip otherwise.
The Villa – Beautiful!! This villa sits ontop of a hill in a very private and quiet location overlooking the ocean; the view is gorgeous, from anywhere on the property – a perfect and lovely location for our seven day get away. The privacy of each bedroom were a plus, I loved the way the bedrooms were like our own little house away from the living quarters. Upon our arrival to the villa we were greeted by the staff – Glenford (Butler), Iona (Cook), Sandra (Housekeeper), and Annette (Laundress). They were absolutely the best!! Iona had our lunch ready, and the food was out of this world! I mean, EVERY meal – breakfast, lunch, and dinner. After the first three day meal plan that we choose prior to our arrival – we told Iona to do her thing in the kitchen – and she did just that!! There was nothing that we did not love – the favor of everything was excellent! We all were trying to see how we could take her home with us. Instead, we just had to settle for her recipe book! Better than nothing. Glenford made our favorite drinks and had refills ready for us at a moment notice! Our rooms were clean, sheets were changed EVERYDAY; AND, our clothes were washed and ironed EVERYDAY!! Unbelievable!! We were spoiled the entire time!
Please note that if you are traveling during low season that you do not need to use the villa driver, the Half Moon Resort will come and pick you up and take you to the resort or golf course. Now, during high season – this will not be possible…but it did work for us during low season – Thanks Half Moon, we really appreciate everything you did to make our stay wonderful!!
Half Moon Resort – We had access to this resort, which was close, but not close enough to walk to and because we were there during low season, we could call and request for a van to come and pick us up and transport us back and forth each day – which was cheaper for us to do than using the villa driver Trevor! The guys played golf several times during the week and we ladies had spa appointments at the Fern Tree at Half Moon! The spa treatments were wonderful – we did the cabana outside oceanfront!! The food at the restaurant at Half Moon faces the ocean (beautiful view and nice breeze), was pretty good, but pretty pricey, but expected when on a resort. We only ate there once, since we knew just up the hill, Iona would be preparing a delicious meal for us – so we did NOT miss too many of her meals!
The Tour Desk at Half Moon – Christine was very helpful in helping us book a couple of excursions and arranging pick up for us – thanks Christine, everything worked out very well. We did Dun River Falls, one day and Margaritaville the next which included stopping at Rick’s Café.
Our Excursion #1 – Dun River Falls – Our bus left Half Moon Resort to Ocho Rios, when we arrived lunch was served – which was pretty good. We boarded the catamaran to an area for snorkeling…the snorkeling was not very nice at all, nothing to see, but the bottom of the ocean. So, I just swam around until it was time to board the catamaran. At Dun River Falls – it was a very challenging climb, but I was proud of myself for finishing the entire climb! It was longer and harder than I imagine it would be. Once that was completed, we boarded the catamaran to head back – the ride back was very fun with drinks for all who want something to drink – it was time to celebrate and have a good time!! A couple traveling with us on this excursion, purchased the CD they were selling of us on the Falls, and once we returned to the Villa we watched the CD and we did not see any of our group on the CD – we called the number on the CD and they said they would get the correct CD to us, but they never called us back to correct this mistake – so please make sure you view the CD BEFORE you purchase it!
Our Excursion #2 – Negril – We were headed to Margaritaville! This was fun which included the beach, the drinks and food were great and at a good price! The beach was wonderful! We spend about 3 hours and then we went to a nice little shopping area in Negril for about an hour or so, before heading to Rick’s Café…not what I expected. We did not see one diver dive at all – the divers were waiting for tips and would not dive unless they receive tips! We only saw the patrons diving, but they had to actually pay (tip) the diver in order to dive/jump in the water! AND the food – awful!! This is a place of business I will never visit again when in Jamaica! I do not recommend anyone coming here if you want to see diving or for good food – you will not receive either!!
We booked this villa through Linda Smith Jamaican Villas – Sharon was the best. She took care of everything for us when we needed it – especially the issue we had with Trevor on the first day! Thanks Sharon! We are planning to come back to the Pavilion in two years! Can’t wait to see the renovations and of course see Iona, Gilford, Sandra, and Annette!
