Usually dine at Thistle Lodge when on Sanibel. Food is perfectly done to your satisfaction. Wait staff great. The place for that "special occasion".

We are locals, been to almost every Restaurant on the Island.
First visit, date night, requested a seat with a view/reservation, my husband was served expensive steak that was frozen in the middle, the solution: to microwave it until it was inedible yet we still had to pay for it and was not offered any alternatives..husband didn't end up eating anything except his salad and appetizer that night...and the view is laughable, if you are lucky enough not to be there when there is a wedding and a giant white tent is between the restaurant and "view" that's over 100 yards away!
Second visit: Mother's day brunch, made reservation several weeks in advance, confirmed water view the day before to be put in an upstairs banquet room ( we had 2 elderly people with us 1 with double knee replacements, the other with balance problems) we were not even told about the overflow room and the fact that there is no elevator only this large staircase where they would need to go up and down to get their food from the buffet (the only option $49/pp) and they didn't even have the options advertised on the actual buffet...we were not happy, neither were the many other people who were told when they arrived that reservations were being seated upstairs because they took walk ins prior to and seated them downstairs where the buffet was...I got a free drink but had to pay $49 for a plate of lettuce. The food here is subpar, the drinks weak, and the management horrible, parking is difficult and there is no valet. Save your money and go to one of the other many great places that serve excellent food on the Island instead, don't waste your time and money here. (This is one of the most expensive restaurants on the Island) clearly because of the almost non existent view if you are lucky enough to get a window seat.

The Thistle Lodge Restaurant is an elegant place to dine with white tablecloths and black napkins. The view is breathtaking with the tall royal palms framing the ocean complete with a white sand beach. Everything is upscale so I expected a lovely luncheon experience...and I was VERY disappointed. My friend and I both ordered the "New England lobster roll" She had never had one before but I, being from Boston, was raised on them so I had high expectations. When the lobster rolls were placed in front of us, I thought they got our order wrong. The buttery toasted brioche roll was stuffed with a pinkish, shredded filling that looked like a relative of chopped ham salad from the grocery store. There was no trace of chunk lobster meat in it and the flavor was not like any lobster I have ever tasted. I felt sad that my friend's first experience with a lobster roll was this abomination. And we got to be disappointed for only $18.00 each....what a deal! I later found out that they make their lobster salad using lobster knuckle meat which, as any New Englander knows, is the throwaway part of the lobster. Thistle Lodge should be ashamed to call this a lobster roll.

This used to be a fine dining establishment. But, things have changed. No joke! There were people actually playing cards in the dining room and yelling, while waiting for their food. People were wearing dirty T-shirts to dinner. The bartender was nonexistent when we arrived. She tended to us and disappeared. We couldn’t find her. When we were seated, we found out why. She was the only waitress for the entire room where we were seated.
The food was superb! Cudos to the chef and staff. But, without a management or wait staff that cares; it’s not worth returning.
