We visited in October 2017 after a hurricane and the shelling on the Captiva side was unimaginably good--just stand and wait if you like or hunt and peck--no matter--you would find gold in them there shells! At that time the beach ended about one quarter of the way up that beautiful stone jetty that is there. I mention this because we came back in April of 2018 and the beach had filled in all the way to the end of the jetty and the shelling was not very good--that must be tons of sand in the millions! But this place is one of those special places on the Earth that just grabs your heart and soul--sit back and let mother nature take you where she will!

Big caveat: each new day provides a different experience and our experience at Blind Pass was below average. We went at the morning low tide, four days after a full moon. In theory, a good time to shell. The waves were very strong and the shells were beaten and broken. We had two kids under 10 with us, and they didn't enjoy any of it. We spent about 20 mins "hunting", giving up pretty quickly due to how bad it was. We went over to Bowman's Beach (about 5 mins south of Blind Pass) as we had a much better experience there the day before and ultimately again to day. If you do visit Blind Pass, here are a couple tips. 1) Parking is tight. Appeared to be mostly people fishing in the morning and they take up a lot of spots. 2) I would suggest paying the minimum to park so you can check it out. The parking is so close to the beach, you can easily go back to the meter to add more time if it is good. Other than that, I'd recommend Bowman's over Blind Pass if you have kids and want to explore.

Another Sanibel Island dog-friendly beach we enjoyed on many visits. It's a little difficult to spot coming from Sanibel and has very, very limited parking...under 30 spots so you need to get there no later than 9-9:15 a.m. any day of the week in high season to find a spot. Parking fee at kiosk $5/hour. No amenities. Many beautiful shells, maybe you'll find a conch here (very near the bridge).
