the location is great, on an old street resembling an old European village. It is walking distance toall attractions. Rooms are charming and well appointed, spacious with functioning hot tubs. Breakfast was superb. I highly recommend.

Thank you for your positive review. We're pleased to know you enjoyed your stay at our historic inn in the heart of Old St. Augustine. Since this is the oldest city in the nation, much of the area retains its European roots— from the cobble-stone streets to the beautiful architecture— with Casa de Solana included! Our house was built in the early 19th century and, thanks to superb preservation and renovation, the inn is a unique, romantic escape. We're glad you found your room clean and comfortable, and we hope you took advantage of the hot tub! We also appreciate your compliment to our gourmet breakfasts. Thanks again for recommending our inn to fellow travelers. If you return to St. Augustine, we would love to welcome you back!
Warm regards,
Jeff Sonia, Innkeeper

Wasn't that keen on the photos on line, but, the place was clean and in good shape. Could do without the fake plants that hold dust, and a little less 1970's floral decor, but, that's just my taste. First night, bed was so hard, I couldn't sleep. Second night, it was so hot, I couldn't sleep. Nowhere could we find the thermostat. So, between hard bed and heat, it wasn't a winner. At check out, we mentioned these issues. We were told a few of the rooms SHARE a thermostat......obviously, ours was a room that didn't have one. So, you're stuck with the comfort level being determined by a stranger. Our room was an outside room and more exposed while the room with the thermostat was insulated by two rooms. Plus, who wants to negotiate with a complete stranger about your comfort level? This alone would keep me from going back. I don't remember this being disclosed anywhere as I would not have agreed to it. Also, the beds are "Sleep Number" brand beds. My husband's side apparently had a remote control, but, he didn't know what it was for. Hence, I had two miserable nights on a hard as a rock bed. At check out we were told we should have been shown these things by the person who checked us in. Then, we were told she was new. Ah well. Too bad for us. Pay up! Breakfast was adequate, a hot entree of limited imagination was served. Overall, the location is very good but, you must park about five blocks away and walk back to the hotel. Something to keep in mind....and don't bring your biggest car as it may not fit down the narrow old streets!

Room Tip: ask if your room has a thermostat in it or you may be very unhappy!

It is always a lose-lose situation, for the guest and for us, when we hear about a problem for the first time, on check out (especially at the end of a 2-night stay) and having to tell the guest, when they are clearly already aggravated, that had they notified us when the problem arose, we could have remedied the situation immediately and all would have been well. It puts everyone in a very awkward position.

We apologize that we neglected to orient you to the Sleep Number bed; however, the remote control is connected to the bed and is draped over the bed’s headboard (as shown in the room’s online photo), as is done in all bed and breakfasts and hotels that offer the Sleep Number beds. There is also an instruction card on the cord. It did appear that one side of the bed had been manipulated. It is true that if the setting on your side of the bed is not at your comfort level, you won’t be happy, so we really wish you would have inquired. If you did not wish to address the issue, for whatever reason, face to face with staff who is on sight from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m., you could have written your query on one of the comment cards in your room, as we watch for those while performing stay-over service.

Same scenario with the air control. Our property is well over 200 years old, and we have made extensive upgrades. There is only the one room that is controlled by a thermostat in another guest’s room. That is actually better than you will find in some of the other older inns where six or seven rooms are controlled by one thermostat. We do not wish for guests to interact with one another over the thermostat for the exact reasons you mentioned; therefore, we manage the air, and again, had you let us know that you were uncomfortable, we would have been more than happy to facilitate a happy medium between the two rooms for you.

In addition to the comment cards that are available in each room, we do post the after-hours number on the front door, and it is noted at the bottom of the laminated 8.5 x 11 Welcome Letter in each room. Dissatisfied guests are fond of saying that they didn’t want to disturb anyone, but we would much prefer that you “disturb” so that we can ensure your stay is perfect rather than resulting in an ill-willed situation.

With regard to breakfast being of “limited imagination,” it is indeed a challenge to present a signature dish that will appeal to everyone, especially when you are serving 18 to 20 people per day. Our breakfast choices are the result of testing amongst adventurous foodies as well as those more on the selective side. Had you mentioned in your review what the breakfast was that you found to be adequate yet not creative enough, we would have had the opportunity to spruce it up for the pleasure of future guests.

In close, we do appreciate that you took the time to write a review and are saddened that you kept those issues to yourself for two days, when they could have been easily resolved and you would have more enjoyed your stay.

Best wishes and happy holidays.

We were invited to stay at Casa by some of our friends who recently moved to Florida and found this place. What an amazing mini vacation! We stayed in the Confederate room. Such a warm inviting room. The food was amazing. The staff was friendly and helped us a lot with directions around the area. The courtyard is meticulously kept and so beautiful to see. I was surprised by how clean and nice everything was. It was the something different that we needed. Such a good place to stay.

Room Tip: Take a look at the different options the staff will be more than happy to show you what they have av...

Layne,
Thank you for your review back in December. We're thrilled to hear that our inn provided you both a unique stay with "something different." That's what makes a vacation so memorable— even if just a mini-getaway! We like to think that our guests step into an earlier time of European-American culture and old world refinement. We're glad you enjoyed the Confederate room; the rich fabrics, four-poster bed, and fireplace all create a very inviting atmosphere, it's true. Last, we appreciate you compliments to our helpful staff. It's important to us that our guests are comfortable at the inn, when they're not out exploring the city. We would love to have you both back in the future, and we're sure your friends in Florida would like to see you again, too!
Warm regards,
Jeff Sonia, Innkeeper

My fiance and I recently were married in a beautiful candlelit evening ceremony in the Courtyard of the Casa de Solana during Illumination Weekend when the city is all lit up with festive holiday lights. we chose a 6 pm ceremony with their wedding notary Jamie Burke who sent us several beautiful vows to choose from and worked with us closely to provide a beautiful, memorable, personal ceremony, which had a few guests shedding tears.

The Casa provided a gorgeous outdoor setting with holiday decorations, candles, champagne and tulle. The guests were very pleased with the luxurious rooms, newly renovated bathrooms, balconies, comfortable beds, gracious breakfasts and happy hours for guests. As the Casa is located in the beautiful historic district near the waterfront, an ideal location, we were near the park and many shops and restaurants.

The guests all enjoyed St Augustine and the horse carriage rides around town at night. We actually bought the perfect wedding ring there at Rex Jewelry Store. The Casa arranged for a beautiful wedding bouquet, the carrriage ride, and a delicious custom cake which was delivered to the Raintree Restaurant for a festive wedding dinner. the Raintree provides a convenient shuttle for guests from the Casa. It was a memorable event and a wonderful evening.

Room Tip: Downstairs or upstairs ? Balcony ? Tub in room or in bathroom ?

We knew little about St. Augustine when we booked this B & B, but we could not have made a better choice. The location is ideal, right in the midst of old St. Augustine and within walking distance of most of the tourist sites and great restaurants. The house itself is old with many characteristics you would expect of such a place, but moderized as needed for comfort -- there was a whirlpool tub in our room, but the ceiling was low. The owners have obviously made an effort to keep the decor and furniture in tune with the period of the building -- it is grand! We were very much impressed by the cheerful and helpful staff -- they made our visit so pleasant. The breakfasts were wonderful. There was a different main feature each morning of the four we were there, such things as Apple Harvest Pancakes and Bacon, and Cinnamon Raisin Souffle, but cereal, scones, juice, boiled eggs, fruit, etc were also available. I would certainly recommend Casa de Solana and would be pleased to make a repeat visit.
Our only small problem was with the wireless internet connection -- the signal was weak and the connection was slow.
