“Overall Great Experience”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

The room was clean, the people, especially Bonnie, were very friendly, and breakfast exceded expectations. I would definitely recommend this B&B!

We have stayed in dozens (maybe hundreds) of B&Bs in our extensive traveling and this is definitely the best experience we have had. So it’s not surprising that we return year after year for the past 12 years. Bonnie is gracious and charming with a welcoming smile and a helpful attitude. She along with Terry and Diane, make everyone feel special and immediately at home.

The physical beauty of the Victorian house is outstanding. Bonnie purchased an abandoned house in the historic district of St. Augustine over 20 years ago and transformed it room by room to reflect the Victorian era. The 5 guest rooms in the main house are incredibly romantic, each with a unique theme. We have stayed in 4 of the 5 guest rooms and loved each of them equally. Bonnie is an amazing interior decorator with an attention to detail which results in a beautiful period home. This year we stayed in her newly constructed 2 room suite situated over the garage in the backyard. It is very roomy with a fully furnished kitchen area complete with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Hardwood and tile floors throughout, flat screen TV in a large bedroom, and 2 sets of French doors lead to a spacious deck complete with seating areas.

Bonnie’s breakfasts are served in a beautiful, formal dining room. We have stayed for 5 days at a time and never a repeat. The start includes a fresh fruit cup which can be topped with her homemade granola and crème sauce, mini muffins and juices. The entrees are amazing ranging from her version of French toast, eggs benedict, quiche, hash brown casserole, and sides of bacon and sausage. Conversation at the large table never ceases and Bonnie joins her guests while we are enjoying that last cup of coffee.

Bonnie continues to spoil her guests with wine and sherry in late afternoon along with a supply of soft beverages and water always available in the mini fridges. To start your day, coffee awaits you in the foyers before the 9 AM breakfast.

Seville St. is just a couple blocks from the shops and restaurants in the historic district yet in a quiet residential area. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the US and such a treasure to visit. We love it and visit often and we live in Maine!

Alexander Homestead website is accurate – you can trust the photos and descriptions.

If you plan a visit to St. Augustine (and you should!), do yourself a favor and stay here for a perfect B&B experience and meet one of the nicest ladies you’ll ever encounter. And be sure to meet Candy Lee and ask her to smile!

My husband and I had a wonderful time getting away to St. Augustine and The Alexander Homestead Bed and Breakfast. Bonnie and her sister made us feel very welcome and served a wonderful breakfast each morning. This B and B is close enough to walk to the old town sights but is far enough away to be cozy and quiet. We would definitely go again.

My wife and I were guests for a valentines day trip. We stayed in Queen Anns Room which was beautifully decorated with its own second floor porch. Bonnie, the innkeeper welcomed us with open arms and gave us materials on what to see and do in town. She also showed us how to work the direct TV. For two days we did not need our car at all. The B and B is on a quiet block two blocks from Flager College which is a must see and four blocks from St George St the pedestrian only street downtown. Outside our room was a refrigerator stocked with sodas and water and on a small table were bottles of red and white wine and peach brandy. Also cds and DVDs were available. Every morning at 7:45 coffee is brought up and left outside the room..we had two scrumptious breakfasts at 9AM and shared recollections with the other couple staying there.
Bonnie was extremely nice..here is an example. The second night I could not get the TV to work. I called her thinking she was downstairs in the Alexander room. Little did I know she lives in a different location nearby. But she came right over and fixed it for me as I had no doubt pushed the wrong button. We got to see two other rooms as well and all were beautiful and furnished differently. The one thing I should mention about our room was the there was a claw foot bathrub with an attached shower. After a herb bath I found some difficulty in getting out as I could get one foot over to the floor but there was nothing to hold on to while extracting the second foot. Fortunately I was able to negotiate this procedure without difficulty but I would recommend a different room for seniors with leg problems.

My stay here was great! The location was very cute and I did not feel like I was in a commercial type location which is exactly what I needed. Its not located right where all the tourists walk but still extremely close to everything you want to walk to and see. It is located in a quiet quaint little neighborhood which is perfect for a romantic getaway. Bonnie the owner and Terry the housekeeper where both super nice and friendly and Bonnie has to be one of the best cooks i've ever met. The breakfast, the wine and the service were all wonderful. The rooms were cozy and cute. I am definitely planning to go there again for another romantic getaway!

Room Tip: Second floor rooms have wine access right outside the door
