I found an amazing deal on Travelzoo for this resort. After reading many reviews, I was rather skeptical about what I was about to face at the little Harbor. However, this place is absolutely amazing and am not too sure what the bad reviews were referring to. We stayed at The Resort on Little Harbor in room 520C which was facing the townhomes, although I wanted harborside, it was fine. The one bedroom suite was immaculate when we walked in. The decor of the suite is a sky blue which gave it that caribbean-island feel. the decoration was exceptionally delightful and made us feel like we were definitely on a caribbean vacation. We loved the fact that it had that home away from home feel. On the harborside of the building by the pool, they have a fire pit where you can sit by and drink and watch the sunset. Although we missed the sunset from the harbor, it is still a sight to be seen. They also provide a Grill where you can bbq your own food. The private beach that is next to the restaurant is okay. I didnt expect it to be amazing. Although it has the caribbean feel, there is stilll the caribbean sea waters that are missing. We only stayed for four nights and after the realization that we were heading back to the gritty city we wanted to extend our stay. I fully recommend this place for a quick getaway and just a place to relax watch the sunset.

Room Tip: Harborside is probably the way to go.

I want to make sure people realize that I am not rating the hotel itself, but rather the condos that are on the same property. These are available for rent at various sites.

The condos are near the resort property but it is a medium walk past the marina to get to the resort itself. The beach is sandy and pretty, but the water looked very shallow and not very inviting for swimming. There were only two beach chairs on the beach when we visited. The Tiki bar looked festive and we saw a sumptuous feast (AYCE buffet) being offered at the lounge and restaurant, but at $25 per person it was more than we cared to pay. (It was Thanksgiving weekend.) So we can't rate the food at all. We didn't use the resort facilities much, but did make use of the business center to print off our boarding passes with no problems. The hostess at the restaurant was kind and helpful as well, even though we didn't choose to eat there.

Our condo was new and furnished in a European (think IKEA) style. Each one is obviously decorated to the owner's tastes. It was a bland white with relatively high ceilings. You must go up many stairs to reach the first livable area, as the ground floor is the garage. Then another set of stairs gets you to the bedroom level. We found occasional cockroaches, but this is Florida. Ours was very clean. I didn't like the plumbing noises (e.g. when the upstairs toilet is flushed you hear it on the main level) and our flooring was lots of nice tile. However that made for lots of noise transferrance - for example from the dryer on the bedroom level or the main TV echoing throughout the entire place. (Maybe others have some carpeting??)

The fan started everytime you turned on the light in the main level bathroom and it was noisy. The doors on the bedroom level had windows over them and when my husband turned on the light in the ensuite bathroom at 6:00 am it shone right into the bedroom through that window. Between the light and the noisy fan and the echoing tiles he woke me up every time.

Everything in our condo worked well. There are nice huge patio doors that can create a wonderful cross breeze through the entire condo. The bedrooms (we had 3) were of medium/small size, but nicely furnished. The streets are quiet and there is a pool for just the condo area. (Another one is at the resort.)

There was a horrible swampy smell as we approached the property that was bad. However, it stopped before we got to the resort itself. We also had a dreadful swampy smell when we turned on the tap water, but that went away if you ran the water for awhile.

The thing the my family didn't like that others have mentioned was that it is about 15 miles from Tampa and in an area with no other night activities. However, it was halfway between Bradenton Beach and Tampa so it worked out okay for us and the activities we had planned. Don't choose this resort if you want a large choice of nearby restaurants or night clubs. All in all, we might stay here again, as none of the minuses were enough to deter us, but I think I would look around for someplace further south.

The Thanksgiving buffet at the Sunset Grill was fantastic. There was a terrific selection, and the food was marvelous. The sunset was picture perfect! We had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Some friends and I took a weekend ride on our motorcycles across the state and picked out the Resort and Club at Little Harbor by just searching over the net. What a gem it turned out to be. We visited in July and got rates of less than $100 for rooms with two queens. The rooms were very spacious and clean and more that I expected for the rate. Each building had its own pool, and though they were small and not resort type pools, good enough for us to cool off after a day on the road. Next we hit the tiki bar, right on the Gulf, and it was loaded with locals and other visitors. Drink prices and service were good and you had an excellent view of the sun going down. The resort has a nice beach area too. We then went to the restaurant where the food was excellent. Prices were fair and what you would expect for a place right on the beach. Overall, it was a great stay and for the price, the location and room size, I would definitely go again. They had tennis and other activities there that you could do as well. Not much else around there, but for a couple day or weekend getaway for a super price, a beach location, and time to relax and enjoy, this is the place! Located just south of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico.

Room Tip: The rooms have double queens and are very spacious. The rooms in the hotel area, versus condo, are...

My wife and I found a great deal on Travelzoo. We had never heard of The Resort & Club at Little Harbor nor had we ever heard of Ruskin, FL in the 10 years we have lived here but decided to take a chance. We were extremly happy and surprised by what we had found. When you pull into Little Harbor it is like you are pulling into another world. Beautifully landscpaed and very well maintained. The original room that we had gotten did not face the harbor so we requested to be changed. The staff was very nice and had no probelm doing it. They even brought the new key up to our room so that we did not have to go back down. The pool area was very nice. My only suggestion for here is that they should have a bar and perhaps some music playing. If you want a drink you need to walk to the resturant across the street and carry them back. At night we ate dinner at the Sunset Grill which is part of the Resort. We sat out side since a band was playing. The food quality was way above what expected. In the morning we went back for breakfast and once again it was very good. We were disappointed that we had only booked one night.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a high floor that faces the harbor
