Rosie's, or The Clam Shack, is a virtual institution.

The fare is plentiful and delicious.

Maryland crab cakes are "ALL CRAB" with no filler.

The New England clam chowder is homemade and scrumptious.

Clams are the house "specialty" and well-worth enjoying.

The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable.

Rosie's is off the beaten path and a bit difficult to find.

Prices are exceptionally reasonable compared to any restaurant near the beach.

We enjoyed dinner TWICE in one week!

Went to Rosie's last night and ordered Captain's plate- the serving was small enough to pass for an appetizer- 5 small-medium shrimp, small filet of fish and 4 medium size sea scallops.

My spouse and I have small appetites and usually order one dinner to share when we go out- glad we ordered separate dinners this time because, although the "Plate" was $16.95, it wasn't even enough to serve a child. Told the waitress, but she said this is standard for this meal.

We arrived around 6:30 Saturday evening. Rather gloomy bar - no customers there - reeking of cigarette smoke. Only two other tables occupied and one other party arrived while we were there. Atmosphere is pseudo Key West, with ethnic music prominent. Furniture rather dingy, set with Budweiser six pack cartons containing salt and pepper. Condiments that were brought with order included a grimy bottle with less than an inch of hot sauce in the bottom, an old bottle of catsup that was also almost empty. Entrees included two sides but only fries, parsley potatoes and pasta salad were offered. The sides were tolerable but the pasta quite overcooked. There seems to be a paper shortage as there are no napkins on the table other than the one around the tableware, and when requested the server brought some paper towels.

On the positive side, the fish (cod and swai), scallops and French fries were excellent, but the shrimp was watery, possibly soaked after defrosting.

Overall: The food was quite good, well prepared, served fresh and hot. Nicole was cheerful and affable. She did a good job as a server. Did bring an unopened bottle of hot sauce on my request. Somewhat overpriced considering the limited menu. I remember this place as Nicky's Clam shack when it first opened about 25 years ago, and the space has expanded with the added bar, and the food still good, but the place still looks like it's trying to be Key West.

If you said no, get yourself in here! FRESHLY shucked oysters layered with bacon, fresh spinach and parm shavings. I didn't realize how noisy I was eating these delights until my husband commented that "I was getting a little loud". Sorry, babe--it just happened! Talk about a happy mouth!

My beloved had the Captain's Platter and just as others have said, yowser! Whole belly clams, scallops, fish, oysters and shrimp lightly dusted with a wonderful fry mix and perfectly fried. Ignore the French fries, go for the homemade onion rings.

Don't go to this place if you're looking for a window with a Gulf view--it's located in a strip mall 15.1 miles from the Gulf. Go for the food! By the way, still family owned (Dad and Daughter) after 30 years.
