This is a no-brainer. The Conservatory golf course is better than the Ocean course for two reasons.
#1 Challange .... the conservatory course is, if not the longest, definitely among the top two in length in FL, plus the abundance of sand traps make it a challenge for any golfer, no matter which tees are used. The course was in great condition for late March, especially the greens which were true & quick.
#2 ...... Cost ..... the conservatory is somewhat reasonable at just over $100 after 1:30 PM for the type of course it is, not worth more than that though. The Ocean is at $300 and four of the holes have a great look at the driving range. Excuse me!

We played in mid April 2018 and I think I found every sand trap on the course. The course was recently reseeded after incurring damage in 2016 from Hurricane Matthew. I found it tricky hitting shots near the green as the grass is a little sparse iand Sandy and it was hard to hit flop wedges to elevated greens over sand traps. There are many holes along the ocean and there is plenty of Wildlife to help you enjoy your round. The resort offers three different greens fees depending on when you choose to tee off, providing good value.

The Ocean Course at Hammock Beach is by far the most beautiful and enjoyable course I have every played. The layout is challenging and fun. The conditions are top notch. The golf carts are equipped with highly sophisticated GPS, and even ball washers on each cart! The staff is incredibly friendly. Instead of the usual "keep pace with the foursome in front of you," we were told to take our time, enjoy ourselves, and were even advised as to which holes were the best to take pictures on! The Pro Shop is worth the trip all by itself. They carry some of the finest labels, some of which I never knew of before visiting Hammock Beach. Beautiful course, wonderful staff, from the cart/bag folks, to the shop workers, so the starter.

The Ocean course is still recovering from hurricane damage and will open in "Fall 2017". Pity. So I opted for the Conservatory course designed by Tom Watson. OMG! Everything, I mean everything, you could want from a course is there. First, it's the "longest, hardest course" in Florida. Bunkers are everywhere, as is water. As my partner (member) informed me, there are 18 level lies on the course - the tee boxes. Undulations abound. It all makes for a challenge, but there are multiple tees to offset. Course condition is superb. No bare spots anywhere. Never seen truer greens. The staff was the friendliest I've ever encountered from the pro shop to the starter to the marshal to the cart girl. Cool water and ice provided. PLAY THIS COURSE!
