The Caribe Royale was a destination for a recent conference, and we stayed for 4 nights. Overall the hotel rooms are very, very tired, but the pool and conference center are beautiful, as is the main area of the hotel. Whoever made the decision to have someone play live music (guitar/ singer) poolside several days a week should be promoted. It provides a nice, chill vibe without the entire pool area turning into a giant party.
Of special note is the small spa, not to be underestimated. Having found Joshua in TripAdvisor reviews, I tried to make a massage appointment with him. His schedule didn't allow it, so he referred me to Sean. Sean is a phenomenal massage therapist---I asked for a sports massage and he delivered. Massage + pool + music for the half day that I wasn't working= relaxation.
The staff at the Caribe Royale is very nice, especially the team in the coffee shop. They would get throngs of people in the morning, some of them very hung over, and the coffee shop baristas delivered. Little things like that make a difference in a hotel this size.
Overall, don't come for the rooms, but DO stay if you don't plan to be in your room very long.More
