A delightful experience for dinner on two different nights. Fresh seafood prepared properly and with several options. The paella is simply outstanding. A warm wait staff take good care of you and the pricing is comparable to other area restaurants. Already looking forward to our return to the area.

Sunshine Seafood Cafe and Wine Bar is a great place to have a quite evening either with that special someone or other couples. Seating is limited, so call-ahead is encouraged. There is seating inside, but during the fall and winter months I wouldn't even think about sitting inside. The menu is not catered towards family with kids and I would even consider the price point on the menu to be "fine dining".

Seating: Upon arrival the wait time was a little excessive considering the number of open tables. Our group of three had a five-minute wait until someone could seat us. Only two wait staff were available during the evening. Robin, our waitress, and also the hostess, was great at explaining all of the specials, wine pairings, and suggestions for appetizers.

Drinks: Mush like other establishments on the island, Sunshine Seafood Cafe is a beer and wine bar only. The selections are quite nice and as a red wine drinker at dinner it was a refreshing change to have been recommended a white wine pairing with our meal for the evening. Everyone had some type of seafood as part of their meal, so it was a great compliment.

Food: Menu options were perfect for apps, soups/salads, and main entrees.

Robin recommended the Sea Scallops and Goat Cheese appetizer, which was a hit with everyone; wood grilled sea scallops with herb crusted goat cheese, complemented with fresh herb olive oil.

One individual in the group selected the Fresh Florida Red Snapper Picatta, very good. You can never go wrong with Red Snapper. Another individual in the group selected the Shrimp and Scallop Scampi. This can sometimes be hit or miss on the level of "fishy smell" to it, but the linguini and scampi butter hid any possible trace of smell. Last, I ordered the Sunshine Caesar Salad and added Shrimp and Scallops for an extra $7, worth every penny. It was light and filling at the same time. I made this a habit on the island during future lunch/dinner when wanting a salad for a meal. Most restaurants offer this as an option.

Parking: Parking is very limited as the restaurant shares the lot with the island beach store next door and Cantina Captiva on the far end of the building. If the parking lot is full you can park diagonally across the street in the bubble room parking lot (plenty of parking) and walk across the street.

If you are lucky enough to have Robin as a hostess or waitress during the two nights a week she works, be sure to ask her about other island restaurant recommendations when wanting a specific menu item i.e. keylime pie, tenderloin, etc. She is a local and also a realtor by day for RE/MAX of the Islands, located on the main drag of Captiva.

My wife and I continued our eating your through this area in our Captiva vacation and stopped in Sunshine. We had the BBQ shrimp app and the paella and tuna for entrees. Food was good enough and certainly no complaints. Wait staff was very friendly. But I found it really hard to justify the prices being charged for a venue that is not fine dining. The ambiance is certainly not that. Limited seating on the patio/deck and cramped bench seating inside makes you start to lose your appetite. Near $30 for paella? Didn't think that paella was better than a Doc Ford paella which was bigger portions for less. Anyway, the pricing and lack of atmosphere (or a bad one) made this one average in my book.

Everything was great, food service and a lovely bottle of wine. It would have been perfect if we had managed to get a table outside. Shame!
