I am a Nostalgia Buff and being 60 years old, this place caught my eye as it reminded me of Motels past.
Cute and Kitchy from the outside, I decided to stay a night here and relive what was once a place to hang your hat for the night on vacation. Checked the website and saw what I thought was a "Blast from the Past".
Upon arrival I was greeted by a Young Man who was pleasant but not very good speaking English. Filled out the necessary paper work then received a Key and a TV remote.. (A real Key. Not the Plastic Card thing).
They put me room 9 which was in the single level unit to the left of the office.
I opened the door and was greatly disappointed. Although the room smelled clean, the bedspreads had holes in them which looked like cigarette burns from years ago. The walls were completely bare. Not even a Cheesy Thrift store Palm Tree Painting or a Parrot. NOTHING. The Stainless Dorm style refrigerator must have been bought used at a Yard Sale as it had rust on the outside and a Home Made Shelf to make up for the missing rack. The Microwave was at least 25 years old and the paint was peeling/chipping off.
No TV guide for the Satellite Dish, but I was not there to watch TV. I wanted to open both windows but there was only a screen on One. After awhile, I decided to turn on the A/C. Very Musty Odor emitted from the aging unit but it did cool the room down.
The Bathroom was renovated sometime this decade, was clean, but just lacked sparkle. Towels looked like they were purchased at a Bargain Store and were beginning to look washed out.
As expected the walls were thin and could here most of the activity in the rooms that I was in between. Although the other guests were around my age group they were pleasant and no Wild Partys.
I have to say, before checking in, ask to see the room. My room was absolutely nothing like the pictures on the website which drew me in. As I was only there one night, checked in during the afternoon, and had plans for the evening I opted out to complain being I was just going to shower and sleep there But for $125+ per night, I would have rather stayed up Collier near I-75 at one of the Chain Motels as they were more spacious and had more for the dollar.
Oh Yes, the WiFi was non existent. You could barely get a signal and I could not log on as the signal was that bad. And it is unfortunate that WiFi these days is something one needs to operate personal devices for many reasons. Like looking for restaurants, stores etc. as Phone Books are no more. There was no local information so one didn't know where to go eat or even order a Pizza should that be desired. I am familiar with Naples, but for the total stranger and a older person that did not have a laptop or smart phone to look for venues they would have been stuck.
I hope this place cleans up it's act as I thought it WAS a real gem. It is a Diamond in the Rough, but right now it's a piece of Coal
