“Will definitely return!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 March 2012

We stayed at sense south beach hotel for 4 nights and were very happy with the service we received.

Alex at front desk was very welcoming and was more than happy to suggest places to visit when requested.

The room was immaculate and very well furnished. The beds are amazing.. Memory foam mattress and pillows offering a great night sleep - The only thing the room lacked was a large full view mirror.

The bathrooms were clean, and nicely decorated.The molton brown toiletries were a nice bonus!

The hotel is literally a 2 min walk from the secluded end of south beach - location is perfect. Quiet enough to be able to sleep at night yet, close enough to the action for you to feel apart of the active night life.

Tip: book a good few weeks in advance to get best prices!!

We will definitely be back.

We arrived in Miami on 10 March 2012 during Spring Break weekend and stayed for 4 nights. Luckily the hotel is located on the quieter side of Ocean Drive so we weren't disturbed by the partygoers during our visit.

The hotel is chic and minimalistic. The glass doors open into a lovely white, air conditioned lobby area with white leather chairs and tasteful pieces of art on the walls. Alex at reception was very welcoming and informative and we were quickly shown to our room. We had a very large quad room on the second floor with a large bathroom and super sized shower.

The hotel has put a lot of thought into the rooms. The beds and pillows are amazing and provided some of the best night's sleep we've ever had. The sheets were clean and the room and bathroom were spotless. The towels were soft and fluffy; the shower fittings were all top end Hansgrohe and the toiletries Molten Brown. Absolutely nothing to complain about.

Our rooms were cleaned daily and when we needed anything the staff including housekeeping were very polite, attentive and helpful.

The hotel is monitored by CCTV camera which made us feel extremely safe and the staff are all very helpful and friendly.

The hotel also has a rooftop heated pool which was brilliant and we sat there in the evening after a long day at the each to unwind.

The hotel is literally a block away from the beach. Perfect location. South Beach can get very busy but the access from the hotel to the beach leads you to a quieter part of the beach which suited us perfectly. The hotel also provides beach towels and chairs if needed although we didn't use them.

We saw some of the other hotels on Ocean Drive and thanked our lucky stars we'd picked the most modern looking one in the perfect spot. Some of the ones we'd though of staying at were actually very dated looking and certainly wouldn't have provided the moderns amenities the Sense provided.

We would definitely return to stay here. Having travelled a fair bit this is one of the best hotels we've stayed at and we couldn't recommend this hotel highly enough. Don't give staying here a second thought. The length of this review and the the time taken to write it should be a testament to how good the hotel actually is.

Negatives:

- The ironing board was a little wobbly (but i'm sure Alex would have fixed this if we told him);
- The pool needed more comfortable seating surrounding it and better lighting to make it more
inviting at night;
- The hotel doesn't have a bar or restaurant (but who really cares when there is Big Pinks diner
a 2 minute walk away with brilliant diner style food and bars and clubs galore a 2 minute walk
from the hotel up Ocean Drive.)

Thank you to Alex and the team for making our stay so comfortable!

Room Tip: We we're on the second floor (Room 206) and we didn't have a sea view so perhaps ask for a r...

Scanning any review site has become a double edged sword as a personal screening tool – you can really like the look of a potential purchase for lots of reasons yet get put off by just a few adverse review comments. I searched long and hard before I picked this hotel for two nights in SOBE with my wife following a business meeting in the city. It seemed to offer value for money in a relative “sense” to other hotels yet have not accumulated too many negatives compared with others.

We live out of town and have become pretty sensitive to noise so a quiet situation appealed. Sense proved to have that yet it is an easy stroll to the beach with the hotel’s towels and (nice – we used them) folding chairs at no charge. Also to Big Pink for breakfast (none at hotel.) And beer, wine, liquor and convenience purchases are a short block away. Minor neg – no coffee in room when we stayed - overcome by Big Pink. Glasses and a fridge in room. The beachfront action – for watching or joining in is again an easy walk – maybe two blocks at most.

We enjoyed Avalon (pricey) News Café, Joes Crab Shack (take out but eat on site) and News Café as well as Big Pink for meals. All a short walk from Sense. There is a huge choice.

All good so far. Our room (307) fronted 4th St but had a partial ocean view as advertised. It was large, clean and very modern. We did not use the TV – 32 flat – but the fridge worked well. Bathroom nice but with potentially excellent shower marred by very slippery floor and unhelpful door opening. Molton Brown freebies. Memory foam bed was a new concept to us – we were split on our view of its sleeping comfort.

The Sense’s rooftop area is private and little frequented – the pool is adequate. Lazy elevator to minimalist ground floor and reception. A few chairs and tables and free ice machine.

The Sense is clearly fairly new construction or a deep remodeling compared with a lot of SOBE. The staff on our stay were all ladies and perhaps from South America but with no language problems. They were super-helpful and friendly throughout. We left for MIA after checkout time – our bags were held safely and a cab called when needed. It arrived promptly. I sense they are responding to these reviews over time but have to budget the development of the property.

What can we conclude – SOBE is often not cheap and most of the hotels aren’t either. If you want a Deco design experience with prices to match then stay at the Delano (it is fabulous on the ground floor) but if you want to go home with some sense of value as well then Sense is rather good.

Room Tip: We liked 307 - there are corner rooms fronting Ocean Drive that may be larger but get the streetfron...

Location of hotel perfect was perfect for us. We were on Ocean Drive but did not have to worry about all the noise & crowds when we wanted to go back to our hotel at the end of the evening for a good night's sleep. Just across the street from the beach & hotel offered free beach chairs & towels which saved us $ from renting. Of course, we had read wonderful reviews about Alex & he lived up to them. So helpful in pointing out all the places we may like & where they were located. Without his suggestions, our vacation would have been limited to Ocean Drive & most of our best 'finds' were the places Alex suggested. My husband got food poisoning for almost 3 days of our 5 day vacation (at a place Alex did not recommend, we should have listened more closely), but I felt very safe walking around by myself, regardless of the time of day. Nice to have Walgreens just down the street and little deli's around the corner for quick bites to eat. Beach was one of my favorites of places we have visited & would definatley go back if just wanted a quiet place to rest & relaxing visit to the beach.

We stayed here during our trip for the South Beach Wine and Food festival. There are several contributors to my rating this property at "poor". We arrived about 230pm and the rooms were not ready, they ended up not being ready until after 5pm.When I asked the front desk person for advise on recommendations for "happy hour", she responded with I don't know and need to look online. We had two rooms, one didn't have a refridgerator the other did but it was secured in a cabinet that caused it to overheat and warm up. We requested a taxi one night to attend a party. I believe the taxi was never called and when we went to the lobby the desk person remembered and then called the taxi. We waited for 15 minutes then gave up and walke down ocean dr until we were able to grab a cab. The beds were confy and the bathrooms were above average, actually very nice. Each time I wanted to speak to a staff member, I woud find the desk empty. If I called the front desk there would be no answer. Fair location but the staff made the our stay unpleasant. I will not stay again.
