Reasonably priced for on the Gulf accommodations. The room was clean and reasonably up to date. Full size refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot are a plus. Beautiful Gulf view from the snow white sandy beach. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, Mexico Beach is a nice getaway!

Last I visited was in March - on 5th floor. BEAUTIFUL VIEW. Nice and quite, as we had hoped it would be; for a short getaway!!!! We live in Panama City so when we want to "get away" we head EAST!

Rooms have been maintained very well; considering the age of this ONLY BEACH FRONT hotel! Very clean; comfortable beds (that's a BIG + for me).
Many VERY good choices of places to eat. Each are privately owned and operated. I think that makes the food taste so much better! Everyone there are very nice and most helpful. (I've stayed here many other times, enjoyed each visit).

This area of Florida has always been a secret - looks like the secret has been leaked- its not much of one anymore. I've lived in the Panhandle my life, this is where "the locals" prefer spend their time on the beach. Their beaches are not as (commercialized) and so busy! People take their time to enjoy the days, the sunsets. This may sound silly...but for some reason they feel safer. (I'm not talking about sharks; they are everywhere! Always be careful!) So, when we want to go to the beach we go to Mexico Beach, and further East.
(((NO !!!!))) - I'm not saying where; ...you 'might' find our (real) hidden treasures?

Room Tip: Get a floor on the 4th or above = BEST POSSIBLE VIEW

El Governor is an adequately maintained older building with friendly staff. Room rates are high because there is only one beachfront hotel for at least 25 miles in either direction. Nice beaches in still rural panhandle have no lifeguards. Some rooms have full size refrigerator, microwave and electric stove. Staff is pleasant and efficient. Parking is tight on busy weekends. All rooms face the ocean, but some jerks smoke on the balconies and feed the seagulls -- nothing like waking to a Hitchcock scene from the Birds in the morning. Sealed windows and no screen door to balcony prevent listening to the Gulf, but do block the cigarette smoke, and the stench from the paper mill in Panama City.

Room Tip: Single slow and busy elevator makes walking up to 5th floor faster than waiting waiting waiting.

After looking over some of the reviews we were on the fence....We loved it....Our room was in the taller part of the hotel. It was perfect and clean with a wonderful view. The pool was warm and wonderful with lots of places to enjoy the atmosphere. The bar had plenty of space with a ton of seating either in the covered patio area or by the pool. The outdoor restrooms were clean and well stocked. Again the view was fabulous. The small store on the property had lots of options and very well stocked.

The El Governor is our second home. We have been visiting here yearly for the last 13 years. We are always welcomed with open arms and always have exactly what we need. The annex room are spacious and have a kitchen. Which makes life easier when feeding 3 growing boys. There are numerous places to buy groceries nearby. The entire hotel is literally on the beach. No more than a few steps and you are in the sand. My kids enjoy the pool. We always end up meeting new and exciting people when we visit.
