Sailed on the Black Pearl on April 3 @1:00 PM for the one hour pirate tour. It was crazy fun. Took three grand kids ages 12,10,6 and they all loved it. (We had seen how much fun it was several days earlier during a pontoon rental from Isles of Capri Marina - our favorite place to rent from!)

While waiting to board, we purchased swords/pistols/pirate caps for very reasonable cost and all got free tatoos. ARRRRRGH!!!! Then we boarded promptly at 1PM and were talked to by a young pirate-gal: pirate lore, pirate expressions, pirate dances, pirate jokes, etc. She was amazing and held all of the kids' attention for the next 60 minutes. The Black Pearl sailed from Rose Marina to abreast of the Snook Inn and after pulling even with the Snook Inn -- Pirate Pete arrived in a small dingy and tried to board for the next 25 minutes (both sides) while the kids drenched him with the 6 water cannons on each side. Back and forth Pirate Pete steered his dingy (20-30 times) but was repelled each time by the capable pirate kids manning the water cannons. Pirate Pete was crazy and our pirate-gal guide had the kids running from side to side to make sure he didn't get aboard. Our guide had also carefully explained various elements of the Pirate's Code, including making sure that the water cannons were shared among everyone aboard.

After Pirate Pete was banished, there were treats and a little treasure bag for all the kids, plus free drinks. Parents also had access to a cash bar, there were minimal waves so seasickness wasn't a problem and there is a bathroom on board.

During our "return to port," our pirate guide continued to engage the kids with stories, "Pirate Pete Says" (variation of Simon Says) and other fun activities, so there were absolutely no "voids" where the kids (and interested parents) were not engaged. BTW, there is very comfortable seating on the poop deck, under a canopy, for parents/grandparents to simply enjoy the one hour ride if they want a break from the bedlam occurring on the main deck.

I highly recommend this activity for kids ages 3 to 15, moms & dads and grand parents. It was safe, entertaining, funny, crazy, exciting, interesting, and seriously one of the highlights of our trip to Marco Island this year. For the very reasonable cost of passage (almost the same as you'll spend going to the movies these days), this was an activity our kids and grand kids will talk about for many years to come.

We took two grandkids last year (7 and 9 yrs old), and they had such a great time that we made sure to take their three cousins (5, 6, and 8) this year. We highly recommend it -- the kids are kept busy with lots of pirate-y stories and silly activities, with fending off Pirate Pete with their "water cannons" always the highlight.

To be sure we were there on time (be sure to get there 1/2 hour before showtime, to check in, and give the kids time to dress up, get their arms "tatooed," etc.), we came down to Marco (from Naples) early for lunch. Last year we went to the nearby Snook Inn. This year we packed a picnic and ate at Mackle Park (7 mins away from the Black Pearl dock at Rose Marina). The park has an awesome playground.

We took our boys, ages 4 and 2, on the interactive excursion off Marco Island. It was a great trip and they enjoyed it. The 2 year old couldn't really do as much as the 4 year old, but we all had fun.
