Short time there. It is disorganized without purpose. There was no one there to tell me what I should find interesting. It's just a bunch of random planes and posters and books. I would have thought that with so many retired pilots in the area that some of them would have made an effort to turn this into a real attraction.
I attend this museum with my family. This is a free museum, they just ask you leave a donation. It is a very nice place to visit, especially if you have an interest in airplanes and aviation history. I would highly recommend it.
You committed to that driving trip through the Florida Keys, so why not take some time and visit the EAA Air Museum in Marathon. You are definitely going to pass it, as it is located at the Marathon Airport. It is free, but they do accept donations. Besides the interesting planes, that you won't often see, the best thing is talking with the volunteers that can be there. They all seem to have a passion for aviation history.
This is a place that is always fun to visit. The history, the retired war veterens that are always on hand to answer questions or give you a little tour. Love this place! Free but they do accept donations and it is completely operated by volunteers! Great history!
People there are awesome. Few planes to look at. It's a quick visit, but worth the stop. My daughter loved plane simulator.
Our son wants to be an aerospace engineer, so we made a 2nd trip to this museum after it was closed the first time (Sunday). The retired gentlemen that was manning it was very sweet and had lots of stories to tell. There is an old flight simulator that actually works, as well as a small plan the kids can sit in and pretend to fly. The rest is mostly pics and memorabilia. Next door is a great biplane ride that we took as well.
