We came on a day that was not busy, and the park staff was so insightful on the history of the park. Talked all about the quarry and the railroad and the hurricane from the 1930s, that killed a couple hundred of the workers. Very interesting, the trails are flat but have some root systems, and expect to see some non-venomous spiders. You can really see the fossils, and appreciate the history of the area. It's a good little side trip

We learned about the railway that was built through the Keys. Learned a lot about the trees of the region as well as fossils. Saw lizards and birds. A nice walk. A lot of it is covered so it wasn't too hot. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

A great way to spend an hour or two learning about the nature and history if the Keys.

We did the self guided tour for $2.50 each. The tour book was detailed and we learned a lot.

There is a small indoor exhibit with a friendly ranger to answer questions.

Then a series of walking trails through the hardwood hammock and old quarry. Most trails are 0.5 mile or less.

There is a water fountain and restrooms at the park center, but you probably should bring water if it is a hot day.

Windley Key is definitely worth a quick visit (that's all it takes) to learn about the fascinating geology of the Keys. Florida State Parks are hidden gems!

We were surprised how quiet the park was. Made an interesting short stop, take the time to do the self guided tour and learn about the quarry and rocks. Fascining to see the limestone and see the shells and creatures (and sand from the Sahara!) that helped them form.
