Owner description: The house was named for William Curry, a penniless Bahamian immigrant who made his fortune reputedly as a salvager -those scurrilous fellows who preyed on shipwrecked travelers in Florida's pirate-infested waters.- Curry attained status as Key West's first millionaire and began building the Mansion in 1869. The architectural details are common to wreckers, incorporating elements of many ports-of-call: the widow's walk of New England, the ornate trellises and balustrades of New Orleans and the columns and colonnades of the Deep South. Curry's son Milton completed the Mansion in 1899, furnishing it with the 18th-century antiques and Victorian pieces gracing the parlor today. The imposing entry is paneled in bird's-eye maple, handwrought spindles and Tiffany glass sliding doors. A formal dining room is staged with Haviland china and faux replicas of the Curry family's original solid-gold Tiffany flatware. An 1853 Chickering piano, reputedly most recently of Henry James's Newport home, sits in the music room. Key Lime Pie was first created in the Curry Mansion kitchen by Aunt Sally. Today the home of innkeeper, Edith Amsterdam, the Mansion is also an intriguing museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Curry Mansion Inn...where the elegance of Key West's past is equaled only by the elegance of it's present.

“I wouldn't even think of staying anywhere else in Key West...”
Reviewed 11 January 2012

This was our first visit to Key West and the Curry Mansion and we were delighted with our choice. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. This was made extra special as we stayed just after Christmas when all the decorations were up. On walking into the house I couldn't believe this was where we were staying. It was just gorgeous. Staff were very friendly and a good laugh. Breakfast is top class and there is a wide variety of choices. "drinks time" which was from 5-7pm was great as it was located next to the pool and provided a great opportunity to meet the other guests. There was also a fantastic piano player or guitarist there every night. There was a wide choice of drinks and snacks.
The pool is small and not one you could do lengths in, but was fine for a dip as it was heated.
The location of the house is perfect and right around the corner from Duval Street which is the main street. It's also a 5 min walk from Mallory Square and the beautiful sunsets.
My only very minor complaint is that our room was right next to where they served breakfast and we got woken up most mornings when this was being set up, but we could live with that as like to get up and about.
Our room was spacious and very clean and well equipped. The room was cleaned everyday and we had no issues with it at all.
We absolutely loved the Curry Mansion, will be recommending it to our friends and will definitely stay here when we return.

“The Best”
Reviewed 2 November 2011

Just got back from 5 fantastic days at Fantasy Fest at the Curry Mansion in Key West. We could not have improved on anything from the location, room, staff, happy hour or the breakfast. We booked the same room for next year and can not wait to return and will definately recommend the Curry Mansion to all our friends and relatives. What a great get away and only a few steps from the famous Duval street. The only thing we had to ask was for the pool heater to be turned on after the first day and they did so immediately.

“Conveniently located, comfortable”
Reviewed 2 July 2010

We were most impressed with the staff and the rooms. We stayed on the side that is not historic, but we walked around in that section and it has antiques and colonial sorts of decor from the wrecking days. We were comfortable and very happy with the location.

“I have not seen the property yet; I've seen the perfection in their commitment to set the standard”
Reviewed 11 November 2009

I , myself have not yet been a guest. That is a long shot for even the most exclusive of properties, anywhere, anytime, always. Why? I am a supremely difficult guest if I am not happy with the results of the whole experience. I am deliberately, very difficult to inform, impress or achieve the truly outrageous requests I will at the first contact, ask for and expect to be fullfilled. Exactly. Efficiently. With the effort although great in size; appears to be effortless in execution. That is what I want. What is a real fact of merit in this case is the successful results of the staff at Curry Mansion, in a half an hour, in a un-nerving display of self-absorption few could deliver with my skill. So far CURRY MANSION, A DEFINITE...stay tuned for the whole experience; nuance by nuance. Sometimes size really doesn't matter.

“Like our second home.”
Reviewed 30 June 2008

We have enjoyed the Curry Mansion Inn each year for the last 8 years. We feel that we are at our second home when we are there. The location can't be beat, just off Duval, and the free parking is a godsend. We have tried other places, but keep going back to the Curry. The complimentary breakfast and cocktail party are the best we've ever had. The mansion is very beautiful and the pool area is like a private oasis away from the hustle and bustle of Duval St. The staff has been there a long time and treat us like guests in their own homes. It is no wonder that other guests we have met there are like us and just keep going back again and again.
