Hotel was so-so. Nice location with potential but it’s tired. Everything is past it’s prime and worn. Scratched, dented, dirty. I am also pretty tired of hotels not cleaning rooms during your stay unless you ask. Ridiculous policy. Rates aren’t lower due to that. I didn’t use any amenities during our stay and I paid a “resort fee” plus now I have to guess I am paying for room service and not getting service. Now, I know this is not only this hotel doing this it’s an industry thing and it’s time for it to end!

We stayed at Opal Key Resort to celebrate our birthdays and anniversary this past week. Our check in was friendly and quick and we were pleasantly surprised to have been upgraded to a beautiful sunset view room. The staff also sent up a complimentary bottle of champagne and chocolates to facilitate the celebration. The resort grounds are lovely and there was plenty of upkeep going on while we were there. The bar and restaurant staff were attentive and the food and drinks were tasty. We only partook of breakfast and cocktails in the bar and Bistro 245, not dinner or lunch. The menu appeared similar to other local upscale restaurants in selection and price.

Each night we were given the most spectacular sunset view from our room. Our room balcony framed the quintessential Key West sunset perfectly and we could do so without fighting crowds within Mallory Square. During the pandemic, this was especially nice. The hotel location is very walkable and we did not use our rental car in all four days of being in Key West.

The room was nicely appointed, the bed and pillows were comfortable, everything was clean and tidy. The robe and slippers to use in the room are a very nice touch. The room showed some minor signs of wear and tear, but all in all was acceptable for an upscale stay. The pool was nicely kept, prettily landscaped, and there were plenty of lounge chairs to be safely and comfortably socially distant from the other patrons.

It was a great stay. Thanks Opal Key Resort!

Room tip: Our September visit was blissfully quiet for Key West

The first floor rooms smell of meld dew. Upon arrival we were told that we would have to call for housekeeping. We called on the third day early in the morning. When we returned to the room in the afternoon the room service had not been preformed. We call again to the front desk and they apologized and said it would be taken care of. When returned at night the housekeeping service had still not been preformed. The next morning we called again. And yet again when we returned the housekeeping had not been preformed. After a long discussion with the front desk housekeeping started. Then when we went to check out they had charged us for parking each day even though we had specifically told them we were not parking at the hotel or in the public parking next to the hotel. The restaurant and bar service and pool area was great. there is just a serious issue with communication by the management at the front desk.

Room tip: first floor smells of mild dew.

The hotel was not cheap but the rooms were clean and you definitely can’t beat the location to Duval Street. It was also right next to the sunset charter that we chose. The pool was nice and relaxing and no need to get up early to get a good spot. Staff was friendly. My husband would have liked a way to get some early morning hot coffee but I think most of this town is not early risers . The view from our room was beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay.
