[Note: after writing this review in the airport, I checked our bank account and we actually ended up spending more money at Douglas House (our "dud" hotel) for two nights than at La Te Da (our "OMG AWESOME!" hotel) for three nights, so please check out La Te Da availability before booking!]

SUMMARY
The location is great and the service is good, it's the rooms that bring the rating down. If you're a college student here for Spring Break or Fantasy Fest and want an affordable place near the action, Douglas House is for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay here, because there are other places along Duval that have better accommodations (see: La Te Da or Duval House).

ROOMS
At first sight we liked it because we had a private porch (that locked for extra security), and the accommodations looked dated, but just fine for being in paradise. I hate to say that the test came during bed time, and the sleep quality was poor. The bed must've been super old or just really used because both my husband and I were tossing and turning both nights we were there, and a good night's sleep is key when you're on vacation! We're not the picky types either. Also, the water from the shower seeped past the curtain which made for a wet mess until housekeeping arrived.

My fiance and I stayed at Douglas House for our few days in Key West and we really enjoyed it. We thought it was nice that it is close to all the things on Duval Street, but not right on Duval Street, which helped with noise levels at night.

Everyone we met there was very nice, friendly, and helpful. It has a beautiful courtyard with a small pool which I imagine would be nice for quiet times, (we didn't spend any time in the pool or courtyard). The room was clean and very private, except for the occasional Douglas House kitty visitor on our porch, but we didn't mind that!

We would recommend staying here!

We arrived late in the afternoon with no reservations and no clue where to stay. First Timers! We stopped at the Welcome Center and Tara set us up from there! The only complaint (it's really not a complaint) was that the room was on the 2nd floor. We were offered help getting the bags up to room though. Super close to Duvall but at the quiet end. We rented bikes and never had to move the car. Our room was small but very nicely done and had a high ceiling with a fan. When we checked in, we only paid for 1 night not knowing if we would like it or not. Needless to say, we stayed the entire time there. I would stay there again and would recomend it. They had rooms to fit a number of different budgets.

The Douglas House is such a charming and quaint property to stay at. Our room was beautifully decorated and even had stained glass windows. Although it was chilly when we stayed, I was still able to sit on our private porch and drink my coffee in the morning, enjoying the relaxing fountains and tropical plants surrounding the property. Their pool was beautiful too, but I was too cold...The staff is upfront when booking that they don't serve breakfast, but they are very knowledgeable about the great breakfast spots close by. Close to Duval and other attractions, but quiet when it's time to relax! Wish we had been able to stay longer, will be back as soon as we can!

Room Tip: We stayed in Royal Palm #10...It's upstairs and private, great size for a couple.

This was my 2nd stay at douglas house and it was equally as enjoyable as my first stay. The hotel is quietly nusseled away from all the noise of duval street and within walking distance of all of the main attractions of key west. The staff (Douglas and Mike) were super friendly and very accommodating. They have a lovely pool and free coffee and tea. My only small complaint is that they could use some new beds. Some of the rooms have great bed and are very comfortable but others have beds that are just as bad as the pull out sofas. Other than that We had a wonderful time the rooms were clean and comfortable as always.

Room Tip: The L rooms are newly renovated however the other rooms are more bed and breakfast style
