The hotel was adorable inside with a very cute modern beach vibe. It was clean and we were greeted with delicious rum drinks. The beach was visible from our room. It was two adults and a child so the pull out bed couch was great for the extra bed. I would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I stayed at The Gates for 2 nights in June. It is a bit pricy for what is offers, but all the hotels in Key West are. Here are our impressions:

Pros
- very clean and new
- Swimming pool was nice
- staff was generally very nice (except for one employee named Aaron who, when we called at 10pm to know what time foodtruck would open in the morning and what they served - because we had a boat trip at 9am - gave us the wrong information about the time and just said "there are many options")
- We had to call someone at the room to solve two problems and it was very quick (the refrigerator makes a really loud noise)

Cons
- Food options - there is only a foodtruck which was a really bad ideia. There is no good place to sit down and eat, poor options and the food is really bad. We had a hamburguer for lunch and it was greasy and didn't taste good. Besides that, it looks very dirty. We wanted to have breakfast at the hotel, but it was impossible, because they only have this option.
- Reception desk - I guess it is suppose to be modern, but we found pretty "unwelcoming" to receive the guest in a very small balcony
- Check in time (4pm)

The buildings are nice! The grounds were well maintained and they have an excellent food truck and a beautiful pool.

Unfortunately, They do not have a hearing accessible room. Hearing accessible is designed room also has a visual alarm and notification devices for the doorbell or door knock and incoming phone calls. The staff said we do not have ADA Compliance Kits for Hotels. I asked them to use the form of communication to communicate with me as a deaf tourist, but they did not want to write a paper to communicate with me. They need a proper ADA training to assist deaf tourists with their reservation when they check in. Also, I do not find a supervisor who is on the duty in the lobby room and wanted to share my complain regarding hearing accessible room and ADA training.

Check in was cool. No desk, just two podiums with laptops. Our room was very nice, clean and high tech. The grounds were well maintained and we wish we had more time to explore the pool and the food truck. Room had a fridge and microwave. The clock was a tablet on the nightstand. Very friendly staff. Nice location away from the Duvall street party scene.

Room tip: First floor is nice

The buildings are nice. The colors and dècor are very relaxing and right in line with what you expect out of being in Key West; soft blues and light wood....the pictures are pretty much exactly what you will get. The beds are comfy, fridge stays cold, water stays hot, TV works great! It is very clean as well. Only 2 floors so not noisy. The pool area is also nice, just wish it was open longer. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Didn't try the food truck, but the prices were average for a tourist area. We chose McDonald's for the late-night food we needed, which is less than 3 minutes away if you walk.
