Description: An "only in Key West" restaurant, The Flaming Buoy Filet Co. makes a statement on the hushed stage of a residential neighborhood. It is one part retro supper club, one part sassy corner bistro, and one part highly personal whim. Fred Isch, self-proclaimed Air Force Brat, grew up in every geographic segment of the country with a mother who loved cooking and collecting recipes. His partner, Scot Forste, grew up on the farm where his mother, bored of city life, spontaneously relocated to get back to the land, breed horses, and grow fresh, healthy food. Every recipe on the Flaming Buoy menu is an interpretation of something Fred or Scot ate at their respective family tables. Local additions, like seafood, tropical fruits, and Cuban flavors reinterpret the nostalgia, and the result grabbed the attention of the New York Times in 2011. Whether from a porch seat next to pots of herbs, or inside a white dining room accented in orange, dining the Flaming Buoy way is delicious and fun.

This restaurant surprised me. The location is not the best but the food was outstanding. Our server knew the menu by heart and was very helpful. The Mac & Cheese was seriously to die for. I had the surf and turf and could not be happier with the lobster which is mixed with Portobello mushrooms. The deserts were all very good. Don't be surprised if you get out of there with a 75$ tab each.

We spent a week in the Florida keys, and this was flat out, no question, the best meal we had all week. The place is small and off the beaten path. The hostess apologized for seating us outside (we did not have reservations), but we wanted to sit outside.

The food was stellar. I had a lobster mac and cheese (usually an app, but they can do it as an entree), and it was marvelous. My wife had local catch with a banana salsa, that was terrific. Dessert, banana bread french toast, was excellent. I'd come back to Key West just to eat again at this restaurant.

What a disappointment after all the good reviews. Food was lackluster and bland. We sat inside next to the broken window. There is a car parked outside the restaurant right next to their outdoor seating that has not been moved in months and has flat tires. My wife had a hair in her carrots. The presentation was just terrible. They threw potatoes, corn, vegetables and then the fish on the plate. Nothing pretty about this presentation. Looked more like cafeteria food than food in a supposedly good restaurant.
There are many great places to eat in Key West, don't waste your money here.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and service, but for the price and expectations, the food seemed a bit bland. The menu showed some spectacular options, but some of the seafood seemed to have none of the sauces and other descriptions from the menu, and seemed to diminish the experience.
