My boyfriend and I wandered over to the Fort Zachary beach which we really enjoyed, after our beach day we walked around the Fort. The Fort was really cool and has a great view! My boyfriend really loved exploring the Fort area and reading different blurbs about the cannons etc. It was worth the visit.

Best Beach in Key West. You can rent chairs and umbrellas and if you walk or ride bikes they only charge $2.00 each to get in. Not sure car prices. White sand and coral beach. Picnic tables and food stand with drinks and beers and lots of good choices for lunch. They also have bathrooms here and lots of bike racks and parking. Easy to get to and great place for photos.

Our guide caught us up on the history of Key West, the Civil War, the U.S. Navy takeover of the area and the Spanish-American War, to name a few. My college age son admitted that quite a few facts were new information. The guide covers about 90 minutes on a modest walking tour. He keeps the group in the shade, while he wears a large ranger hat for sun protection. From construction the cannon fire, he covers it all. You will not be disappointed.

We only toured the fort so I can't comment on the beach or picnic area. The fort is very interesting and full of history I was not familiar with. There was a guide taking a group through which anyone could join or just read the info boards yourself. We walked from the southernmost point and had a little trouble finding our way till we found some signs. There is an entrance fee which for walkers is only $2.50. Be sure to lather on the sunscreen before you enjoy this historic site.
